Blood Orange - Freetown Sound . I've been a fan of Dev Hynes since his early days in noisy dance-punk band Test Icicles, through his indie folk albums as Lightspeed Champion, to the funky, experimental R&B and alternative pop of Blood Orange. . Freetown Sound is the latest and in my opinion the best album he has made out of his whole discography, regardless of genre. I really like the 80s new wave, synth-pop undertones. And he’s got some seriously stellar guests on this record: Debbie Harry, Empress Of, Nelly Furtado, Carly Rae Jepsen, Kindness, Porches… . On top of that, Hynes is a master multi-instrumentalist. I’m in awe of the talent and skill on display. I usually recommend a few tracks to check out, but in this case, put it on start to finish.
