July 1970: Recording 'Dolly Dagger', 'Beginning', and 'Pali Gap', at Electric Lady.
Eddie Kramer: Hendrix cut 'Dolly Dagger' twice. He recorded a rough demo at the Record Plant, but that was scrapped entirely. We cut the new basic track in one evening but spent three or four days overdubbing guitars and finishing the background vocals.
When we were cutting the basic track, Jimi put on a lead vocal at the same time he was recording his lead guitar to get into the mood of the vocal. Devon was in the control room at the time, and you can hear him sing,'Watch out, Devon, give me a bit of that heaven'. It was a tribute to her, and a nice touch.
