Some Devilfishshipping x Shaman King idea based on @/apricot-kingdom desings for YGO Rarepair week on twitterÂ
bead and if you don't mind any ship- Yami Bakura and Mako (Devilfishshipping)
(I’m just gonna say that I’ve never written Mako before, so uhh…this’ll be a first :P)
Bakura’s feet always lead him down the shoreline, when he had nowhere else to be. He’d stare out at the expanse of water, his hand drifting into his pocket. Fingers tracing the smooth surface of the single bead threaded on twine, a memory of the last meeting on his mind.
Perhaps that was what brought him here, expecting to find the man again. His eyes wandered to the dark water and wondered if Mako would even fear the shadows he controlled when it was always present in its depths.
“I have felt more fear being thrown by the ocean than from you,” the fisherman’s voice was teasing, but a spark of recognition of a challenge held Bakura’s attention, “A single person, no matter how dark their heart, cannot be as fierce as braving through stormy waters.”
Bakura laughed, a cackle that echoed across the water. “I can do more than toss you from your boat, fisherman. Perhaps you’re interested in a demonstration?”
The man grinned, dropped the gear he was hauling off his boat in favour of his deck, and leapt over the lip of the boat to land only a couple steps from Bakura. The bravado and excitement on his face made Bakura’s pulse pick up.
“Perhaps I am.”
Bakura was pulled from the memory by the feeling of water lapping at his feet. To his surprise, he had stepped closer to the water than he intended to. His hand gripped on the simple bracelet.
Bakura sneered as he watched his life points drop to zero, and glowered at the cheering man in front of him. “You got lucky.”
The fisherman’s grin easily slid into a genuine smile. “Maybe I did. Your monsters sure proved a challenge, my friend.”
Bakura’s nose wrinkled, not remembering when he acknowledged the man as a friend. He didn’t move when the fisherman dug into his pockets and walked closer. “Listen, I’d love a rematch someday. But the ocean’s call is too strong to ignore.”
Bakura was about to make a snide remark, but stopped seeing the fisherman’s hand held out.
“Take this as a promise to return, then we will have our rematch.”
A large wave crashed loudly into the shore, the boat behind the fisherman creaking but barely being tossed by the movement. It eerily reflected his own emotions at the offering. Bakura huffed and held out his hand, grabbing the gift and stuffing it in his pocket without tearing his eyes from the fisherman’s face.
“I will consider it…”
“Mako,” the fisherman replied, assuming Bakura had even been asking for his name.
When Bakura didn’t respond in kind, Mako took it as a cue to leave and climbed into his boat again. “Well, it was a good duel! See you around, Angelfish.”
Bakura sputtered indignantly, sneered up at where Mako once stood, and left without another word.
He refused to wait for Mako to return any longer, he wanted his rematch. He wanted to show Mako just how much more dangerous he could be compared to a simple body of water. Sure, Mako had managed to slip Bakura his number unnoticed, but he refused to use it.
It was simply another challenge he’d refuse to lose.
