maira still wasn’t over the break up. for her it still felt like yesterday, not a month ago. her head and heart were a fucking mess. they were her best friend, the love of her life and then over time it all went to hell in a handbasket. had this trip not been planned months before, she would have cancelled. the tickets were bought, the lodging was booked. there was no getting out of it, she’d tried. she’d hinted that they weren’t feeling so hot, and it was best for everyone if they sat it out. but her mother, bless her soul, she couldn’t let it go. she loved them almost as much she loved maira. as the bonfire crackled in front the pair of exes, her hand rested on the centre of their back. it was to avoid suspicion, and maybe, just to feel close to them again. “i tried telling her, about everything, but you know how she is...” she smiled across the flames, nodding at the obvious elder hayat woman. her happy staring as obvious. “i’m sorry if i’m keeping you from anyone this week. i appreciate you doing this, though.” fuck, she just wanted to go back before all the shit hit the fan. she missed them in the way that a dog missed its owner; pathetically and desperately.
