Nolan has been injured far too often to keep up with it at this point. In his line of work, injuries are to be expected. no amount of preparation will ever fully prevent injuries. the crucial part is to be able to treat said wounds or injuries with proper care, which he knows how to do. there are scars from his first encounter with a high vampire across his abdomen and burn scars all over his body after a fight with a less than cordial sorceress who specialized in elemental fire magic. And he’s got star-shaped stabbing wounds, too. as for outright sickness, it happens rarely. however, it is not unusual either. for the most part, however, sickness doesn’t concern him much. He’s accustomed to rough conditions thanks to his work, so he rarely ever gets sick. Once he’s actually sick, Nolan flat out ignores it. he just keeps on working and reading and is generally a man of few words when in this state. Don’t tell him to his face that he’s sick if you want to unleash hell, though. he doesn’t take lightly to it.

He is calmed by the scent of a campfire and the forest and peanut butter. these three things remind him of her and, by extension, his family. they used to go camping and hiking a lot before her pregnancy. It’s also how they met for the first time. both scents - the campfire and the forest - are correlated to their beginning. Of course, he likes the openness of a forest and the scent of campfire even without this association. But it always reminds him of her. As for peanut butter, there’s no profound reason. It was some kind of family tradition to always pack peanut butter sandwiches when they were on  trips together. Also, nolan is obsessed with peanut butter.

He isn’t looking, no.  As a matter of fact, he’s still emotionally attached to his first wife. it’s why he still wears the silver ring, too. He still smiles when he sees things such as shows or books she used to like, and he still thinks of her when he isn’t actively trying not to think of her. They’ve been through a lot together as well, which is why they’re still friendly with one another despite their strained relationship. despite this, there is very little chance of them actually reconciling. both equate the other to their son, which is why they’ve both agreed to move on. besides, she’s remarried now.

Nolan  values competence and efficiency over everything else. someone in control of their own emotions is another quality he greatly values in others, most of all because he’s not the most emotionally available person you’ll ever meet. He’s ready to offer help if he can earn a coin or two, and he wouldn’t refuse to share his food with whomever needs it, but Nolan can be just as materialistic and selfish. accomplished people with plausible plans to set their actions in motions are the kind of people he gets along with most. Because he expects no less of himself. lastly, knowledgeable people are high on his sympathy list as well. If he sees there’s an expert in front of him, Nolan will readily listen and exhibit almost infectious enthusiasm. The people he gets along with the least are usually underachievers with no drive or accomplishments of their own. Deceitful, manipulative personalities can serve as another source of annoyance. in his line of work, it is very easy to die, so trust and loyalty are hard to come by.  He just loathes vague, elusive personalities without any aspirations of letting their true motivations slide. Nolan doesn’t like whimsical, spontaneous people either. although i’d like to think that he needs these in his life.

Admit it. You’ve had at least one character spawn from yourself way back when that seriously needed some rethinking. This is one of mine.
