Hello do you have any tip to draw Devaronian? Especially the men? I struggle :(
Take a look at wookieepedia and canon characters! The males are honestly super easy, theyāre basically bald and have horns and everything else is up to you.
Generally they are tall (but so are females), and they have sharp features. I like to think Northern males put on weight more easily than Southern males, just like Northern females are generally hairier!
The horns are on their forehead, just above their eyes/eyebrow ridges, and not on top of their head/skull, which makes them absolutely deadly at headbutting (think of goats lmao)
Donāt forget their lil head crest as well, you can see it clearly on KardueāsaiāMallocās head during the famous cantina scene. And ofc the pointy ears! And sharp teeth!

Montellian Serat, siege of the government of Devaron and of the Serat Arrjeād.

The Government of Devaron
The government of the planet of Devaron is a representative participatory democracy largely influenced by matriarchal ideals. Indeed ā just like in most other sectors (such as businesses, banks, etc), the government is led mostly by females. Males are usually discouraged from participating in politics, unless under specific circumstances.
The planet is ruled by the High Ministry of Devaron. The High Ministry is comprised of twelve members, five of which are the heads of the five primary departments. The heads of the departments aren't elected by the people, but chosen through presidential decree by the other seven members of the Ministry. These seven ministers, however, are elected through universal suffrage by the people of Devaron. The High Ministry holds a monthly meeting in the chambers of the Ministry, in the Tower of Serat, or Serat Arrje'dĀ (āGreat citadel towerā) in Devaronese.Ā
The Serat Arrjeād is named after Montellian Serat (literal translation:Ā āCitadel of Montellianā, Montellian being a historical figure in ancient Devaronian history), of course, which is the capital city of Devaron and where the High Ministry is located.
The five departments of the Ministry are as follow:
The Treasury: Management of tax policy, national funds, development, regulation and control of the planet's economy.
The Grand Tribunal: Responsible for legislation concerning the constitution of general administrative and criminal laws, as well as the judgment and application of punishments upon citizens who have violated the law.
The Foreign Affairs: Commercial affairs, trades, industry, foreign commerce, communication, diplomacy, foreign bids and liaison with other planets/systems.Ā
The Interior: Everything that includes relations and affairs within Devaron. Granting of official papers (Identity papers, authorizations, commercial agreements, etc) and global administrative aspect of the government.Ā
The Defense: Everything that deals with the military/army of Devaron and conquest/exploring. One of the oldest branches of the government. Deals with the army, its units, supply system, engineering (roads, architecture, construction, etc), spatial navy, and Intelligence (Which monitors spies and infiltrators as well)
The government of Devaron is heavily based on communication and a desire to stay united with its citizens. Devaron is known for having some of the best diplomats in most known systems, most of them being females, due to their trustworthy and honest qualities.

The Juridical system of Devaron
Criminal offenses are strictly forbidden, and very harshly punished on Devaron. The juridical system of Devaron is based on execution rather than imprisonment for the highest criminal offenses, and as such, the planet is not granted total allyship with the Core Worlds, as the Republic sees their methods as barbaric (in contrast to the planet's otherwise peaceful, orderly mentality).
Should a criminal be proven guilty of a high offense crime (premeditated murder, for example), they will be sent to the Judgement Field of Montellian Serat, where they would be executed by Quarras : carnivorous predators, native to the jungles, who were starved before each execution. Despite everything, Devaron did not actually hold many executions ā perhaps no more than a handful each year ā as the citizens were known to be very lawful, especially the females ā and the males would choose to commit their crimes off-world to avoid the capital punishment.
A popular expression in Devaronian culture is derived from the last sentence a prisoner who is about to be executed hears:Ā āLook to the skiesā (in Devaronese: āKāven arr kuāurā). By doing so, the victim exposes their throat to the Quarra, inviting them to bite directly into their throat and hopefully make their death fast. This expression now commonly means to resign oneself to oneās inevitable fate.
Females are expected to beĀ tidy, clever and scholarlyĀ while males are expected to be moreĀ submissiveĀ and to follow the rules established by their elders ā at least, until they're old enough to leave their home. And of course, the natural, innate biological temper of each sex influences these made-up roles (and the willingness of an individual to follow said roles), even if itās indeed more common to see male Devaronians off-world than females, etc etc.
It is not uncommon for many individuals to be gender non-conforming and to go out of the path their families (and Devaronian society in general) built for them to do whatever they please.
Freedom of expression is particularly important among Devaronians and is encouraged, so long as it does not lead an individual to committing any sort of illegal actions/crimes.
Sexuality
Again, when it comes to sexual and romantic orientation, Devaronians doĀ notĀ hold any prejudices and are not homophobic. Bisexual females are especially common, even more so than straight couples considering very few males remain on Devaron past their teenage years. During social events and gatherings, most females are seen accompanied by a female partner. It is also common for females to raise their children with other females, several of them sometimes, and many Devaronians would tell you they, in fact, grew up with two or more mothers in the same household.
It was also not uncommon for females to beĀ polyandric, or to have one male lover but several wives/girlfriends (females were indeed allowed to marry multiple other females as long as all parties were consenting).
As for males, some of them will also choose to live on Devaron to raise their own family, with other adults helping them, be it their own partner, their parents or simply their friends.
That's because community living is very much ingrained in Devaronian culture, and not just for females. Most Devaronians, even off-world, do not enjoy being alone, especially if they have been raised on Devaron and thus grew accustomed to having a large family or large circle of friends. They will often stick to other groups of aliens and remain with them in private and/or social and/or professional contexts... although whether they will remain loyal is entirely up to each individual Devaronian.
Male homosexuality is also regarded as common and normal, although straight and bisexual males are still usually expected to participate in reproduction and to sire at least one child before they leave the planet.
Sex and reproduction
Devaronians are aĀ mammalian, terrestrial and bipedal sentientĀ species comprised ofĀ two sexes, male and female. Traditional reproduction required penetration so the male's sperm could impregnate the female's ovum. (Modern means such asĀ in-vitroĀ or simplyĀ adoption, whether of Devaronian children or children from other species, were also common. Cloning is illegal on Devaron, in case some of yaāll were thinking of having kids that way lmao)
Devaronians areĀ not able to interbreed with most alien species, such as Humans and near-Human species. Among the few species that were compatible with Devaronian genes were the Cathar, the Bothan, the Farghul, and the Togruta. But even with these species, the chances of the pregnancy going full-term and of the baby to be healthy was minimal.
Reproduction was (obviously) essential to the survival of the species, hence why, as mentioned above, males were urged to sire children before they left the planet. Although some male Devaronians lived happily with their wives, or wanted to stay in contact with them and their children once they had left Devaron, it was more common for children to grow up without even knowing the identity of their father, or knowing barely anything about him besides their name. It was not regarded as negligence in Devaronian culture, and many females were often content with these arrangements, preferring to raise their children with other females instead.
Pregnancy lasted around eight months. Male children were born with soft horn buds that would start growing and hardening up a few weeks after birth, and would stop growing when they finish puberty (late teens to early twenties). Females did not have horns unless they developed some sort of hormonal condition (anomaly) in utero, but the majority of them still bore vestigial forehead "dots" in place of horns.
When it came to recreational sex with no intention of producing offsprings, many male Devaronians were known to have a very high sex drive, but rather low stamina in bed, and many relied on sulfur-based drugs to enhance their performance. Various means of contraception were used by Devaronians (as well as most other alien species in the galaxy), including but not limited to birth control pills or surgical birth control implants.Ā
Both male and female Devaronians were regarded as particularly skilled when it came to oral sex due to their naturally very long tongues.
A ātraditionalā sexual practice for males was to have their horns rubbed and otherwise played with. This very specific practice is called a hornjob (and has been observed in other alien species that have keratin-based horns) and is rarely understood or practiced by foreigners due to the bizarre (and entirely psychological, due to horns, well...not having any nerve endings, except at the base) nature of it, often seen as "unsexy".
Traditional bauty standards
Males
The most prominent physical trait of a male Devaronian is his horns. Males are terribly proud of their horns, and they regularly groom them and massage them with very specific types of oils and creams to keep them shiny and healthy-looking. Females find males with big, symmetrical horns very attractive, an unconscious preference that comes from how their ancestors used to choose their male partners when the species wasn't sentient (or barely sentient). Indeed, it is said that the bigger a male's horns are, the more virile he is (which isn't... actually proven by any scientifc studies, but rumors and male pride, all that jazz, yāknow?).Ā
Aesthetic surgery for horns is very common, but not perfect, and the difference between natural horns and surgically modified/enhanced horns is usually obvious. Males also take care good care of their teeth as they know they represent an important trait that would suggest they are mindful of their appearance. It is a sign of healthiness and wealth to have white, perfectly pointy, symmetrical teeth. Again, this is a trait derived from when Devaronians were barely sentient and used their teeth to hunt live prey (as such, they had to keep their teeth in perfect condition or they would be regarded as useless among their tribe).
Females
"Hairy" females and "hairless" females were generally both regarded as attractive by males, though it largely depended on individual males' preferences. Some males considered "hairy" females to be more natural and more pure, while others considered "hairless" females to be the next step of the evolution and thus, a better choice for mating.
Hairy females with brown, auburn or dark fur were more rare. The most common fur colors for females were white, blonde and otherwise pale colors. Again, healthy, pointy, symmetrical teeth were also regarded as a symbol of wealth and healthiness in females as well as in males.
Both males and females with blue or green eyes were also considered especially Ā attractive due to these eye colors being very uncommon among Devaronians.
Both sexes had claws and some individuals enjoyed grooming and taking care of them the same way males took care of their horns.
I wonder, who do you think Montellian was? You mentioned in your recent Devaronian headcanon post how they were a historical figure, but I'm curious if you think they founded Serat, first explored the land, etc?
I havenāt thought of a proper appearance or full backstory for her yet, but Montellian was an exiled warrior from a tribe in what is now known as the Blue Mountains. She became famous for thriving on her own in the harsh forests of northern Devaron and founding the first largest, most prosperous alliance between the northern tribes, which led to the founding of the city of Montellian Serat.
The city was named after her as a homage, after Montellian died peacefully in her sleep at a venerable age, after a long and busy life. There isnāt much left of Montellian in terms of historical facts due to her dying over twenty-five thousand years ago, even before Devaronians discovered space travel. There is, however, an ancient statue of her located amidst a public garden near the Serat Arrjeād, depicting her wearing her famous armor adorned with Quarra horns, arms open as to welcome each and every visitor to the glorious capital city of Devaron.Ā
In ancient Devaronian culture she was seen as some sort of messiah, often referred to asĀ āThe most Gracedā (in reference to the old concept of Grace, the equivalent of a religion in Devaronian culture), and is still seen today as the founding mother of modern Devaronian society.
Since she was from the mountains, I imagine her as having very fluffy snow white fur, large shoulders and strong legs.Ā
Hey, I've noticed Devaronians have a great variety of names and last names, and some even have names that are similar to a Chiss name. Do you have any headcanons regarding this?
Hello!
Yes, I do have a headcanon regarding naming conventions in Devaronian culture. The more classic names that go like this: [first name] [last name] (eg. Kavarrhos Sheqtan) are the most common name structure. Thereās nothing special about them, itās just the babyās given name + one (or both) of his parentsā last names. Example; my OC Deltaās birth name is Delthark Sheqtan-Vrasejj, but she chooses to go by Delta Sheqtan.
The ones that are similar to a Chissā name, such as KardueāSaiāMalloc, are generally ānobleā names. They are formed like this: [First name]ā[honor name]ā[last name].
A honor name in Devaronian culture is a name given at birth to a child to honor one of his parentsā achievements (usually political achievement, also includes military & scientific achievements). The name is generally given by a councillor or a councillorās representative to the baby shortly after birth, and is transmitted throughout generations if parents choose to. There are not many honor names and most of them were given to a family centuries, if not millenias ago. If anything, itās useful to track down your ancestry and make sure you are not marrying one of your estranged cousinsā¦
As an example, my OC AshraaāQatāMoro got her honor name, Qat, from her fatherās side of the family, and it dates back to several centuries before her birth. Although her parents decided to give her her fatherās honor name, she could have also inherited of her motherās honor name: Sai. Ā
