You might be surprised to learn that Mihiramon isn't the only winged Tiger-themed Digimon. Now that I think about it, I don't think there are any Tiger-themed Digimon that don't have wings. Huh.
Mihiramon is one of the 12 "Deva Digimon", which are each named after and themed around one of the 12 Heavenly Generals, 12 yaksha (powerful spirits) which were said to be guardians of the BhaiαΉ£ajyaguru or "Buddha of Medicine (a figure seen as an enlightened healer by many Buddhist denominations.) In Japanese artwork depicting the Generals each is typically associated with a specific colour and an animal of the Chinese Zodiac, with Mihira (also translated as Mekira) usually being associated with the Tiger and the colour yellow. That's just one of several surprisingly deep Buddhist inspirations in the Devas' designs (Wikimon has done an excellent job of compiling the rest,) and helps to put Mihiramon's otherwise fairly out-there looks into context! I'm still not exactly sure where the wings came from, or why its tail can turn into a staff when it fights, but I digress...
Mihiramon debuted in the 2001's Digimon Tamers, where it and the other Devas served as major early antagonists. It was the first of the Devas encountered by the main cast, first appearing in episode 14.
