THIS FAMILY . . . .     I SWEAR! 

the pair of them are slowly making their way to the parking lot  ,  dani’s arm draped over malcolm’s shoulder and his arm around her waist to fully support her movement  .  in a few short moments , the profiler had EVERYTHING under control  and in a span of seconds it had all crumbled around them  .  using dani as a ploy was a bad idea from the get go and he had urged gil to change his mind  .  impored him until his hand was trembling because the profile would have put her in too much danger  !! and he was right  . 

now they are here and she’s losing blood very quickly  .  TOO QUICK  .  at the rate of loss versus the time they have for paramedics arrive  ??  there won’t be enough time to keep her from going critical and once that happens every second will count  .  every second already COUNTS and he’s beginning to panic  .  come on ,  bright  .  get it together !! 

❛❛ I brought blankets, takeout, and your favourite movie. I know it won’t fix everything, but it might help. ❜❜

             she must have noticed his demeanor that was a little more aloof than normal  ,  how he managed to not speak up when his knowledge would have benefitted the situation  ,  or how he didn’t use it to his advantage  .  its unlike the profiler to pipe down but lately he’s not felt himself  ,  unsure of everything around him  .  these moments are he takes for himself to be in seclusion and HIDE AWAY so no one sees how deep these wounds run  . 

      being observant of all the details is part of her job and sometimes he forgets to give her the credit she deserves or the fact that she spends that much time actually surveying him enough to acknowledge how depressed he’s been lately  .  not that he would ever show it to those that don’t know what to look for  ,  but dani digs deep  .  it intrigues him  .

she’s been all smiles ‘til now,  nothing but gracious,   “i RESENT that!”   jessica declares,  somewhat stiffly,  genuine annoyance peeking out from behind a perfectly polished mask,  though it quickly disappears once more behind another smile   (   though this one is tense   ),   taking a deep breath,  she looks the other woman in the eye,   “i understand that this isn’t exactly the sort of place where you might feel terribly comfortable  ---  but it’s insulting to me when you imply that i’d bring you out with me only to lie to you.  that hurts my feelings,  dani,  it really does.”   a pause,   “so believe me,  dear,  when i say that you look wonderful,”   

❝  you didn’t but gil did  ,  ❞ he states matter of fact while placing the key on her counter and taking a seat in the nearst chair with hands folded in his lap  .  ❝ he’s worried about you and , frankly , so am i  .  ❞ it’s obvious that she’s not been herself and from the erratic behavior she’s been exhibiting and despite still having been struggling himself with opening up  ,  malcolm just wants to know that she’s okay  . 

❝ I’m sure they have a good reason. ❞

do they ?? perhaps to themselves they have a reason for meddling in his life as much as they do  .  sure his sister and mother love him dearly  ,  but he has enough trouble living day to day  .  he tries so HARD to keep his routine and live his life to the best of his ability  .  now that he’s gotten back  ,  he’s healing in ways he thought he’d never have to  . when he hit his lowest low , malcolm never imagined that it could go even lower  . 

he runs fingers of one hand over the knuckles of his other  , the hovering and the suffocation is not a new concept  .  that much he’s used to but what is different is that he doesn’t want to be left alone  . malcolm finds it odd that he HOPES his mother doesn’t leave for awhile and he finds comfort in the way that people seem to linger when normally he’d wish they’d take a hint  . he glimpses up  .
