Too many ideas, too little time…

I finally completed the portrait of my tengu OC. A character I created mainly because I was saving his name in case Anet made tengus a playable race, and when I realized they weren’t doing it…well I just stored it. But then I thought “I don’t need to play. Let’s just draw him!”

I have not much of his story yet, though. I know he’s from Echovald and somehow related to Ayumi. And for his looks, I got inspired on the Secretary Bird. In the end he didn’t look very different from other tengus around but he still has his distinctive head feathers and I love it. My son said that being a secretary bird, he should come from a desert type place but I am not sure if there are tengus in Elona so I’m sticking to my original idea.

Yay! Thanks! It has a bit of a pun but I love that it sounds somehow Japanese, which seems to be a trend in Tengu names.

3. Where were they born? Did they like the place? Did they grow up there or did they move away at some point? Do they wish things went differently? - Desubi always says he can track his family roots back to Elona but the truth is he was born in Mori Village. He stayed there until he was old enough to travel, because he really wanted to see the world and specially Elona. Unfortunately he didn't go further than New Kaineng. As soon as he entered the city a group of thugs and took all his money. He managed to get a badly paid job at Dragonjade Docks until his distant cousin Ayumi found him and suggested him to join the Pact.

7. What's their job/role in their community? Do they like it? Would they prefer something else? - Since he's still young and inexperienced, Desubi is having it hard to find a place in the community. Latanna, the engineer who was left by the Commander in charge of the Canthan affairs, gives him some tasks, but all of them are around Arborstone, New Kaineng City and Echovald, and he wants to travel away. Actually, after all the stories he has heard, his secret dream is to become a pirate and maybe be part of Sayida's crew.

This time there were no duplicates so far! Well one question was duplicated, but after you asked so I will answer it here.

1. Do they fit well into their society? How do they feel about their community? Do they have any grievances with their way of life?

When he was a fledgling he sort of fitted at Mori Village as most children did. He had friends, played and fought. He was seen as a bit arrogant, because his mother was always telling him tales of grandeur about his ancestors in Elona and he told them to other children who didn't believe them, but apart from that he wasn't different from other children. He trained and learnt and wasn't specially good or bad in any disciplines (well he sucked at shooting with a bow because he has no aim and I had to make a second drawing when I realized so). As a teenager though he started to feel out of place. He met some humans and other tengu who told him about New Kaineng and other places and that added to the stories his mother used to tell him made him decide to leave the Village in search of adventures.

8. Do they have any particular hobby? Is it common for their race?

He loves music. He has a terrible voice for singing, but one day wandering around Lutgardis Ruins he met Jan Lutgardis, they became kind of friends and they gifted him a flute and taught him how to play it. I guess tengus in general like music but I think, due to them having beaks and all that, that playing the flute is not a very common hobby for them. But though it took him a while he finally managed to learn how to use it and he practiced often when he was alone.

Now that he works with the Pact in Arbostone he likes to hang out with the band of Club Canach, specially Kamryn, with whom he shares melodies and practice together.

Despite his dream to become a pirate, he doesn't like water very much. Actually when he finally meets Sayida he expects to join her airship crew, not the Dark Leviathan one. We'll see how that ends.

He has never seen an asura gate yet. Wait until he finds out there’s one in Arborstone which leads to Lion’s Arch.

Yay! Sure! This is helping me a lot to create his background (that's why it's taking me so long, I need to work out his past because he was only a draft in my mind)

4. What's their family like? Are they still around? Do they like them and get along?

His parents are merchants at Mori Village. Both of them were born there despite his mother's claims (but it seems his grand-grand parents on his mother's side were actually outsiders). He also has a younger sister. He gets along quite well with them, specially his mom whose stories he enjoys very much (she has quite a talent for storytelling).

When he left the Village all of them were around. He didn't have news from them while he was in New Kaineng working but when he joined the Pact he had some chances to visit them. His sister has now grown up into a beautiful lady and is planing to move to Qinkai Village with her partner, much to the dismay of their mother who wanted her to have a more profitable marriage.

5. Do they have a partner and/or offspring? What's their relationship with them?

He broke some hearts during his stay at Mori Village, but nothing serious. He liked to brag and since he's a handsome dude for Tengu standards he was quite succesfull among all genders. Right now at Arborstone he's just making new friends and he doesn't want to get to attached to anyone, because he plans to leave on adventures, but one never knows... There's that young kestrel eyeing him since his arrival...

Bonus: Likes and dislikes.

Likes:

He likes bugs, and beetles. He also likes zip lines and speed. I can't wait until he has a chance to meet Gorrik because I feel they will become buddies really fast, and I'm sure he will enjoy a lot beetle races (actually while I'm writing this I think he will get his own beetle in the future).

His favorite food are noodles, and he has a favorite place in New Kaineng where to eat them.

After meeting Kamryn, he has realized he likes jazz music a lot.

His favorite color is red.

Dislikes:

Water, in general, specially cold and humid places.

Fish (as food). That includes sushi.

Kappas. He had some bad experiences with them while working at the Dragonjade docks.
