Friday, November 13th; Maple Street

        On Friday, There were sightings of odd figures believed to be monsters. They want to invade and have a strange way of doing so. They simply have just made every one go mad and a man that remains unidentified shot old Pete Van Horn. These weird activities started when a flash of light and an unidentified flying object (UFO) knocked the power out. We have word from a couple people from Maple Street.

          We got word from Don and Steve. Don said, “I think Les Goodman and Charlie did this because they are the only ones who had a working car and lights on in their houses.” Steve said, “They tried to blame me just because I worked in my basement on a portable radio. Clearly there was something wrong on Maple Street now that we have heard from people on Maple Street.

Maple Street ~ People were living a normal life on a Saturday evening when all of a sudden a flash of light caused a power outage. This was the start of the strange “alien” activities. A few minutes after the flash we interviewed Tommy, a 14 year old boy. He stated that, “All of this mayhem was caused by an alien.” Then he said, “The alien sent a host family down.”

A few minutes later Les Goodman’s car suddenly starts. This caused the neighborhood residents to accuse Les Goodman as an “alien.” This began the violent mob of people accusing each other. The mob got out of control and this lead to a tragic death of Pete Van horn. We interviewed the killer, Charlie. He said that,” I didn’t mean to. It was all an accident.”

            On Friday the 13, police arrived at Maple Street to find that most of the residents have been killed or badly injured. The residents were seen blaming each other for a power outage that mysteriously wiped out all power in the area.  The remaining residents told the police that the violence was triggered by the death of Pete van horn, a resident checking if anyone else in the area had power.  Residents then started to blame and attack each other using anything available, from guns to rocks.

Eyewitness Icecr Eamman says they were a close knit neighborhood living with each other for many years, but a loud flash of light that rendered all of the power off started the conflict. Tommy, a 14 boy, started the thought that there may be aliens hiding among them. Psychologists think that the chain of fighting started when Charlie, a resident whose mind was believed to beat his limit, shot neighbor Pete Van Horn dead using a shotgun 10 minutes till one AM. Survivors said a mob had formed and that is what caused the fighting.

            Recently, we read a drama by playwright Rod Serling titled “The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street”. It started out in late summer on Maple Street. An object from the sky caused a power outage at 6:43 pm, and the turmoil began. The residents of Maple Street became suspicious of one another and started blaming each other for having power when others didn’t.   “The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street” takes place on an ordinary American street called Maple Street. It was a summer evening at precisely 6:43 pm when an object from the sky took out the power and caused the downfall of the community. A 14 year old boy named Tommy told a story about aliens going to the earth. They send down aliens to look like a normal family. People believe this story, and they think that one of them is the alien family. After the characters hear Tommy’s story, they start blaming each other because they thought that one of them caused the power outage. The fact that a few lights go on and off in some of the neighbor’s houses adds to the suspicion of whom might be the alien. The drama ends with aliens in their spacecraft stating that there are other places that break down just like Maple Street. They mention this as if they had already caused other streets just like this one to fall apart.

            We give “The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street” 4/5 stars. It was an excellent play, and the characters had a lot of depth and were well created. On the other hand, it ended rather abruptly with no insight of what happens after the Maple Street resident start chasing each other. It states that some lights go on and off, but it never tells you what happens to the other characters other than Pete Van Horn. It also never states how the aliens turned all the machines off. We know that the roar and lights in the beginning was the spacecraft, but did they hit a power line, use a device to turn the power off, or did they use some other sort of paranormal ability? We never fully understood the post story.
