#desolate au

Desolate Au! In this au there was an almost fatal accident at garden view that lead to the handlers abandoning Gardenview and its inhabitants. The toons now have to fix what the handlers ran away from and combat the twisteds that prowl around.

Donnie leans over Leo's unconscious body, gently checking the bandages covering the red-earred slider's body. Donnie hums in disapproval when his eyes catch something.

"What is it?" Raph asks from his seat in the corner in the room.

Donnie ignores him, and he slips his goggles over his eyes. "His fever's rising," Donnie murmurs after a few seconds. Though, it was more to himself than to Raph.

Raph immediately pops to his feet, happy to do something other than sit around. "I'll go-"

"It's fine," Donnie cuts him off, sharply. "I've got it, Raph."

Raph pauses. It's the first time Donnie had talked to him... in a while. "What?"

Donnie sighs like he's wasting his time with Raph. "I said, I got it."

"But-"

Donnie silences him with a glare. "You've done more than enough, Raphael."

Raph hefted Leo in his arms, the red-eared slider's unconscious body limp and wrapped in a thick blanket they found in the back of the Turtle Tank. Beside him, Donnie hovered, anxiously, his goggles over his eyes and his hands constantly fixing the blankets on Leo's body.

The unusual motherhenning reminded Raph of, well, him.

"You need to be careful, Raph," Donnie instructed, strictly. It was one of a few things that the softshell turtle had actually said to him in the last day. Raph had a sinking feeling as to why. "Leo's in no condition for any sort of rough handling."

"No problem, Donnie," Raph assured him, adjusting their younger brother in his arms. "Got him. You know that."

Raph stood over the rickety kitchen sink, waiting for the water to turn clear. April's family farmhouse was old and, according to her, it's been a while since she's last been here. After a few seconds, the water turned crystal clear, and Raph wasted no time sticking his shaky hands under the faucet. The blood coating his palms slowly melted away, swirling away at the bottom of the sink. Raph vigorously scrubbed at his hands, even after the blood had disappeared.

Squeak

Raph jolted, and he twisted his head around to look behind. Coming down the stairs was his younger brother, Donnie. His genius brother was wiping his hands with an old rag, a blank expression on his face.

Raph raced to turn off the faucet. "Hey, Donnie."

Donnie paused at the sound of his name. Once his eyes landed upon Raph, his expression darkened a bit. "Hey, Raph," he grumbled out.

Raph paused. "How is, uh, Leo doing?"
