newsie is weirdly intimidating? like at first glance zie’s short and has pink hair and kinda dresses like zie’s been stealing clothes from hir older brother (they're twins but other than that zie Has been) so you could almost be like ‘who the fuck is this kid’ and then you notice the knives strapped to hir forearms and the wicked gleam in hir eye and the way that all that gentle tone of voice zie can switch on in an instant doesn't fully distract from the detailed way zie’s telling you how zie’s gonna gut you like a fish.

zie’s also the like. mastermind behind their [redacted] scheme and I cant fully go into that without like. revealing what it is but uh. zie’s fucking smart as hell and sneaky as shit and cherri Does Not question hir when zie says to do something (it could be called the muscle of the operation but newsie can absolutely hold hir own in a fight zie just likes giving cherri something to do)

zie’s abt hmmm 21? in twitterverse, cherri and hir aren’t zoneborn but they might as well have been because they got brought out Super young (like. toddler age) and then their parents dropped them at gerties bc they realized they’d only had kids bc BL/ind told them to :( so zie knows hir way around the zones REALLY well

and hir and cherri are like? closeish? with dr d. think like. half-life coach half-old manager that u rlly liked but the job was shitty and u quit when they did and now u just kinda get together every now and then and bitch about things and every now and then they refer people to ur [redacted] scheme even tho they think u could probably do things that arent [redacted] they still think its funny

I’d say it’s pretty populated, enough that ur not gonna know most people or even most crews. but the zones r also large enough that the population is spread thin. most people only travel around with their crews (or less structured friend groups, or with one friend, or by themselves) and depending on which part of the zones they’re in they can go days without encountering anyone else (I hc that eastern zones 3 and 4 are the most populated, followed by southern zones 2 and 3. the north west zones are by far the least populated, but this is ofc ignoring how much of the western zones in general are just ocean). there’s def quite a few static killjoy communities set up as well throughout the zones but the nest is the most popular and the longest lasting, to give u an idea of the “max size” of these things. and if you want to include neutrals in this census, I hc that there’s a small handful of neutral towns ranging from “bli keeps an eye on them” to “honestly this is just an extension of the city at this point”, as well as some more nomadic neutrals who practically blend in with killjoys (and in some cases do, just keeping their political opinions to themselves)

and as for spoils clubs!! I don’t really hc those as being a thing in my normal canon, but in Cursed and Evil aus they can def be a thing as a treat <3. I know I at least touched upon their lore in steady as it goes, but basically they’re the hub of killjoy culture post-killjoys.

after bli fell, there wasn’t a need for “killjoys” anymore and people dropped the label after a while, moving on. they still dressed in colors and had fun genders and all that good killjoy stuff we know and love, but it merged with battery city culture to some extent and, frankly, being a “killjoy” meant being a rebel which... was just not something they needed anymore. in all of my canons society basically becomes a communist/socialist utopia without bli so, like, the only people who r actually gonna hate that r the shittiest ex-bli employees and/or ex-bourgeoisie. so no more rebels and no more killjoys.

but a few people, who struggled with change or with moving on from the past for whatever reason, continued identifying as killjoys without that rebellion, wearing masks and all that. this became very taboo, with their intentions judged both currently as well as retrospectively (“well if ur calling urself a killjoy now for no reason, were you ever really a part of the rebellion? or was that just an aesthetic for you too?”) so post-bli killjoys end up sticking together for the most part and largely avoiding regular post-bli society.

the spoils clubs themselves are clubs owned, run, and populated by these killjoys and are beat-by-beat recreations of what a club would’ve been like back when bli was still around. sometimes non-killjoys will visit them too in a throwback sorta way (similar to what emo nights or “retro” parties are for a lot of people irl) but most of the people you see in a spoils club are living that lifestyle 24/7. the clubs never close and are the center of that subculture. if there’s any motels or housing near one you can bet all your money there’s nothing but killjoys living in there.

and as for why they’re called “spoils clubs”, that wasn’t a name the killjoys picked out themselves. killjoys just called them “clubs”, or “killjoy clubs” if they wanted to be specific (keep in mind, at this point the killjoys were keeping to themselves so if one’s telling another about “the club” they both know exactly what they mean). but these clubs, as well as the surrounding areas, were a bit more dangerous than the rest of the post-bli zones. along with the rebellion, fighting also fell out of necessity without bli killing and oppressing everyone, so most ex-killjoys chilled out. but the people who still id’d as killjoys?? bro killing is literally the new cool in killjoy culture and that’s gonna be preserved right alongside the masks and the label. non-killjoys figured out pretty quickly to avoid any establishment populated by killjoys.

mentioned this one a couple of times, but he’s genuinely convinced that if anything were to happen he’d be the first one to get ghosted. At first, it was more logical since he was the least experienced fighter, but in time it just became a given fact. One day he’ll die and he’ll make everyone feel like shit because that’s just what he does. He destroys things. He’s a broken timebomb and there’s no real way of saying how, when or where he’ll explode

Kobra Kid

First Impression: He seemed awkward and uncomfortable, very much a ‘younger sibling in the shadow of the older sibling.’

Impression Now: He just wants to be good. He lashes out because it’s the only thing he knows how to do when it all gets too much, but wants to make sure others feel safe. 

Favourite Moment: Has always been the questionable karate in the Na Na Na video, don’t know why.

Idea for a Story: Kobra in the City, the conflict between his loyalty to BL/Ind and the itching feeling that something isn’t right. Poison dragging him out and making the decision for the both of them.

Unpopular Opinion: Absolutely looks like a Highschool Sports Dude (derogatory)

Favourite Relationship: Kobracola 

Favourite Headcanon: The Girl goes to him when she has a nightmare because he knows how to deal with them the best. (Creds to tinyplnets in WKIL)

Newsagogo

First Impression: Really didn’t know much about her, saw her as someone only vaguely connected to the Four and more so to Dr. D.

Impression Now: I think she’s the character to whom I’ve given the most thought, especially with Radio Silence. She likes to have a solution and is extremely sentimental, even if she doesn’t show it all the time.

Favourite Moment: ‘Today’s broadcast is brought to you by Battery Powered Exploding Sheep!’ (From the Newsagogo twitter account)

Idea for a Story: Dr. D trying to teach Newsie guitar (at her request)

Unpopular Opinion: (This isn’t particularly unpopular but) she should have been in the comics. She deserved page time and didn’t get any.

Favourite Relationship: Romantically it’s Newsie and Chimp, but in a general sense it’s the Cherri and Newsie sibling dynamic.

Favourite Headcanon: Her room is filled with small trinkets Chimp made and scraps of her past. Bottle tops, ripped posters, a broken pen, all with their own meaning.

Jet Star

First Impression: The brains behind it all, happy to go along with most things, focused on getting the job done even at his own risk. (Saw Jet as he/him)

Impression Now: Really intelligent, fairly open about her past. Doesn’t always know what to say, but her presence is oddly comforting. She sets the boundary where her safety comes before the task at hand if it’s not something worth dying for. (Now see Jet as she/her)

Favourite Moment: (Not including fanon moments) The look back towards the fight in Sing as she takes The Girl outside.

Idea for a Story: Her first broadcast from the City, followed by the moment where she first sees the face of someone who’s been listening from the Zones.

Unpopular Opinion: Jet is City Born and doesn’t get out until she’s in her late teens.

Favourite Relationship: There have been very few Jetgear HCs and stories which I haven’t wholeheartedly enjoyed.

Cactus Owl very firmly believes that hurting corvids is a surefire way to get on the Witch’s bad side. He staunchly refuses to hurt them, even if they steal his food. Which has happened at least once, probably because he gave one some bread once because it looked so cute. It’s a vicious cycle.
