CURATORIAL AND PRODUCTION PROJECT
Proudly introducing the fourth chapter of ‘AYNI: Theorems of Reciprocity’.
The exhibition ‘An Experiment in Intervals III - Violet Desert’ opening at Galeria Antecâmara on the 7th of March, on view until 22nd of March.
One of the largest and oldest Portuguese conglomerates in the world, the Companhia União Fabril (CUF), exists in Portuguese history as one of the earliest forays into the project of modernity and industrialisation. Found in the industrial park of Barreiro, Portugal, it now includes decaying buildings, rusting machinery and the deep violet toxic waste of pyrite mining, all of which lie just over the river from the pristine houses of Lisbon.
What happened to the promises of modernity that companies like CUF represented? What has happened to our psyche since this mid-century project began?
The arts-based research collaboration, The Third Thing reflects on these questions in their exhibition installation An Experiment in Intervals III - Violet Desert.
Made possible thanks to the support of dg.artes and the Portuguese government.
