● – || It had been one hard event after another for Noctis and the guys . It had they said goodbye to the life they once knew , in the hope of returning to it with him married . . . Instead , his home was burned to ashes and his father was killed without him properly getting to say goodbye . It was a short while later , and Lunafreya was taken from him as well as Iggy was hurt to the point of his blindness becoming complete . 

Nothing ever seemed to get BETTER, only worse . At this point , Noctis didn’t know what to do .  He knew he had to keep going , but at what cost ? Everyone around that he cared about was dead or hurt . His friends were his only family left , though he did count Cor in the mix given that he helped raise him . Nyx , Luna . . . His father and mother . . . Clarus . . . All of them were [ [ g o n e ] ] . 

“ D-Dad . . . I could use some help here . . . ” He muttered as he looked over the railing at the water below , clutching the Ring of Lucis in his right hand . “ I’m tired - . . . I’m tired of talking to myself . . . At this point , whichever path I choose I lose . . .  ”

As his final words slipped from his lips he stopped talking , hearing steps draw up behind him against the dock . His fingers curled around the ring while he squeezed his eyes to stop the silent tears from falling down his face . A [ [ l o s s ] ] that he graciously accepted . He debated throwing the ring , but just decided to lean his back against the railing and bow his head before shoving the ring in his pocket .

Classic Ignis, making Gladio shake his head and roll his eyes. Though, he wasn’t one to judge when he often wanted people to just get to their point, himself.

Prompto had been apart of the group from a moment now. Since Insomnia had fallen, he was so damn ANXIOUS. And they had met this Ardyn guy, who had ended up being the Chancellor of Niflheim Empire. What if he knew who Prompto really was ? What if his friends found out where he was truly form ? Would they truly want him around ? It scared him so damn much.

Aranea was sitting around the campfire. Everything was so messy nowadays; it had been years now. The world was becoming darker and darker, and there were more daemons and less hunters. She worried, all the time, about everyone. Sometimes, she thought it was what she deserved for having worked for the Empire for this long, and she HATED that thought. 

She couldn’t say she was surprised when Ignis joined her, though. He was so brave. Even if he was blind, he had learned to fight again, had learned to do so in a different way. It was RELIEVING to have him around, even if she would never admit such a thing.

With her thumbnail between her teeth, Marie was doing her very best not to cry. This wouldn’t last, of course, and if ever there was a time that her tears were appropriate, this was certainly it.

She’d worked hard, secured deals, and even spent countless hours reading over paperwork, being sure that she had, in fact, read everything thoroughly. Contracts were signed, hands shaken, and dates to begin construction on her school for children with learning disabilities had been set.

On the day they were to break ground, Marie had shown up with bells on. Almost literally. The jingle of her bangle bracelets were celebratory, her outfit new and of the latest fashion, and when she was denied entrance by the foreman, she actually laughed.

Perhaps he didn’t realize who she was.

She passed him her ID, explained her position in the project, and was met with nothing but confusion.

This was the site for a commercial residence building, not a school.

She persisted, but upon threat of law, gave in and went home to make some phone calls.

The first was of course to Ignis, hysterical screeching on her part, lost in the moment of panic, rage, and confusion. By the time he arrived, she was pacing her parlor, straining to keep herself calm as she spoke with her lawyer, demanding all the paperwork they’d gathered over the years while simultaneously spitting out ideas for legal action.

After being put on hold for nearly forty minutes, it was the lawyer’s secretary that greeted her in apology. Tired of waiting, Marie had put her phone on speaker, resting it on the coffee table.

“I’m afraid we do not have any record of any of these transactions, my lady. Good day.”

There was a distinct click from the landline the office still used that left the blonde standing in shock. Someone had gone over her head, someone far more powerful than she, and pulled the rug out from beneath her.

Someone didn’t want her doing good.

Her eyes misted when she felt the soft, comforting touch of her intended, and her thoughts were racing.

- — —  He was aware of Prompto’s approach, even raised his glass toward him and nodded as he leisurely sipped the champagne in his hand. What he wasunaware of was the decoration hanging above his head, and as a result everything he had anticipated about Prompto’s approach went sideways as the latter man traveled clear into the former’s personal space—green eyes suddenly becoming wide, champagne sloshing ungracefully onto his chin as he belatedly made to move out of Prompto’s way ( for he could not fathom why he was closing in on him like that )—until the mission was complete with a loud smack of lips against Ignis’s cheek and a smugly grinning Prompto.

- — —  Ignis was a clever man, and it occurred to him to slowly look upward before coming to any conclusions that Prompto was completely and utterlyshitfaced and possibly in need of removal before embarrassing the Crown.

- — —  Ah, thank the Astrals. Mistletoe.

- — —  ( Ignis supposed he ought to be grateful that it was Prompto who called it to his attention before any of the other guests did. )

- — —  Yes, he had been well and thoroughly had, and Ignis smirked in spite of himself as he dabbed at his wet chin with the back of his hand, tongue flicking over his wryly twisted lip to catch what it could. ( Where was a napkin when one was needed? )

- — —  “ Enjoying yourself, Prompto? ”

If he’d had his camera he’d have made sure to capture that moment on film forever. That expression...? Priceless! But... no cameras, here. Even his phone was tucked safely out of sight for now, both hands curled around a fancy, long-stemmed wine glass as if his life depended on it.

“Heh, well... y’know...” he replied, stepping in closer to Iggy’s side and turning to face the room. That wasn’t really an answer, was it? “The food is super good. And the wine and stuff.” He felt a little awkward in the suit though, but he could deal for another couple hours. “I, uh... I was with Noct, but he got dragged off to dance by some dark-haired lady, so... figured I’d come say hi. And, y’know... give ya a little Solstice smooch.”

It also helped that Iggy was standing off to one side, removed just enough from the crowed for Prom to feel a little safer. Or... not safer, but...

... yeah.

Aranea has been training recruitsand soldiers long enough to be able to discern if someone is pushing to theirfullest potential or not. Part of her specialized dragoon arts is to be able togauge her opponent’s abilities, size them up and use the information of theirstrengths and weaknesses to her advantage.

She can feel the frustration andanguish rolling off from him in waves. Exhaustionleaving its mark in every stumble and missed strike like a thorn pushing in hisside, adding insult to injury. But the daemons wouldn’t go easy on him, and neither would she.

She taps her tip of her spear against his. “Higher.”She demands, “Tuck in, then push upward, I know you can jump higher than this.”

“Don’t be ridiculous.” He spits thewords at her through gritted teeth, but she knows his ire is misdirected. Sheunderstands his frustration. It has taken him some time to reacquaint himselfwith battle when he lost his eyesight, and taking on a new weapon is achallenging endeavor.

“Wrong answer, Ignis.” She repliesarchly, twirling her spear overhead like a baton, then dropping to a crouch todeliver a low sweeping strike aimed at his feet. He leaps upward, fluid andpowerful, artfully dodging her attack.

Her lips curl into a grin behind theslats of her helm as she watches him glide effortlessly through the air, thenalighting dexterously as a coeurl halfway across the plateau.
