✦ 7 minutes with Derek
Remember the theory whereas the human brain experiences a vivid replay of the happiest and most emotional memories? This is basically what this is, except the King's knowledge corrupted him — A slow and gut-wrenching description of Derek's last 7 minutes before death claims him.
7 minutes before his death, his mind turned him psychotic while he tried to keep his eyes on the screen — and finally those loud, irritating screams that he let out were muffled by the fireworks outside. The sharp ache in his head didn’t stop for the past 15 hours he spent looking through his device, but he couldn’t just stop and look away — he’s aware that it will get worse. All he could do is write the final words for the letter he gave to Avery, “Keep going forward.” He wrote those words knowing he couldn’t do the same as him, all of this pain that he endured just for Avery to be safe. “He has so much more to live for.” The harsh pain he felt kept getting worse as he finished the letter, and staring blankly at the monitor with his face crumpled while he’s gasping for air as he cried loudly. That frail body of his is already failing him as he keeps on trembling, the ragged gasps he’s been experiencing makes him more miserable than he already is. His hands curled tightly as he let out another high pitched whine, and if anything — he’d beg for this pain to end. Never in his life where he wanted to end it all quickly, there was nothing to ease his pain either. It never stopped, and even if he had pain killers beside him it wouldn’t last long enough before it starts all over again. As he looked to the bottom of his screen, it was already 11:58. There’s only 2 minutes left before the clock strikes 12 by midnight. He’s slowly making sense of the pain as he finally gave up and let his thoughts swallow him whole. Those memories, where his father left and it was only him and his mother — yet the only parent he has left never checked up on him during this New Years, how ironic that a mother who’s supposed to cherish their child with all her heart leave them in the dark. Certain scenarios started to show up in his mind and they made no sense at all, it’s nothing like he’s ever seen before and it terrifies him. This awful sensation of fear devours him like he’s nothing, and it’s making him feel more sick than he already is. Yet, his mind is just as consumed by Avery, and to say that doesn’t ease his pain would be a lie. It’s such a painful obsession that it disgusts him so much, why does he act like this? Why does he think of him this much? He loathes that smile of his, those sweet loving eyes that’s looking back at him to haunt his thoughts, and his shy hesitation to talk to anyone else unless it's him. Those pleasant thoughts quickly soured as he foresaw another part of Avery’s life — the neglect that he carried all throughout his life, and the fact that he too didn’t have anyone to look out for him during New Years — which was supposed to be something special, but no. It never happens, no one would ever check up on a loser like him. Derek’s fists were shaking in anger seeing those thoughts of Avery filling his head, but later it hit the harsh exterior of the table as his head started to get dizzy after the severe pain he’s been receiving for hours on end. But it didn't matter either way, because even after he wrote the letter, even if he’s about to die — he’s grateful that saw Avery one last time in his thoughts — before his eyes sewed shut as his body slammed against the table, with the letter still open on his screen.
Author's Note: I should really make these oneshot fics longer, but oh well .. I'll probably do that later on if I feel like it, anyway enjoy the short fic!
