"Yo, what uuuuuup peeps." Came Casey's voice over the walkie talkie. She couldn't hear it, but she was almost sure that in that second, maybe about half the people that were listening groaned and turned their walkie talkies off. It didn't bother Casey either. Her tone was casual and flippant on purpose. The same voice she always used when she made a park wide walkie talkie announcements for snack requests. Much different from her normal voice or a more serious tone she'd take in the event of another park wide emergency. Last thing she needed was people turning the talkies off when they all needed to get their asses in gear. But for the time being, the lack of listeners was a good thing. She just hoped that there was one person on the line still listening.
Since the last full moon, to say that Casey was worried about the zombie girl's wellbeing was an understatement. As hunter, worrying about people came with the job, but also came the detachment. After a hunt and case was done, usually it was onto the next case, onto the next town, and she and her partner in crime would never see the people they saw ever again. But things were different here at the park. She had saved someone and now she had to stay around them.
Casey always kept people at a slight mental distance, but with Jennie… it was a little bit different. Maybe it was because there was some common ground: Both of them had their arms ripped off by some bigger, badder and more aggressive monster. Yeah, Jennie got her arm back ( a serious perk of being undead), but the strange bond was still there. Casey understood the trauma that came with it and that's what had her on the walkie talkie today.
"Jennie, you there? Change to channel 4." Casey said after a few moments, once she was sure enough people had put their walkies away. "Uh, soooooo…. you feeling alright?"
God, could she be anymore awkward?
