A message appeared in your room suddenly. “Y/N, Bruce requests you in the medical wing as soon as possible.”
“Sure thing FRIDAY, what for?”
“Sorry Y/N, I am not sure.”
You shrug, close your laptop lid and head upstairs. The med bay? you thought. What reason is there for you to be there on this random Tuesday afternoon? Your heart started to race a bit, unsure of what this was about. An elevator ride later, you were walking into the medical wing of the Avengers tower. It was empty, you didn’t see or hear anyone. What the fuck.
“Bruce?” You called out, slightly panicky.
“Y/N! Back here!” A faint voice called out from the very back of the building.
You slowly walked back to where the voice was. A few steps later revealed a nervous Bruce, white coat and all.
“Uh, what’s going on?” You asked, concern laced in your voice.
“I need your help. Bucky is here, he's having a really hard time, can you help me put him at ease? I figured he only trusts you, sorry I didn’t mean to interrupt your day I-“
You cut him off mid ramble. “It’s okay it’s okay. Where is he?”
Bruce pointed to the bathroom in the very back. You nodded and walked towards it. You softly knocked at the door. “Buck? It’s Y/N.”
“Y/N?” A weepy voice peered through the door.
“Yeah Buck it’s me. Are you okay?”
The bathroom door opened to reveal a puffy eyed Bucky. His bloodshot eyes were a clear indicator he had been crying. He reaches out for you, pulling you into him tightly. You hugged him back, just as tight. Your hand slowly started to stroke the back of his head, as you whispered into his ear “it’s going to be okay, you’re okay” over and over. Bucky finally released you from him, as he sadly looked into your eyes. “I thought I could do it, I was wrong.”
Your eyebrows peaked up, “What happened, Buck.” You weren’t entirely sure what was going on.
“This appointment. I thought I would be okay. I was doing fine until he took out the spinning thing then I completely blacked out then had a panic attack.”
You looked over at Bruce, who just shrugged, then walked away to give you both privacy.
“Buck, I-, what appointment is this? I’m lost.”
“Didn’t I tell you Bruce was going to give me a dental cleaning? I thought I told you-.” He wiped a tear from his eye as he stuttered over his words.
You lifted your hand to his face, as you slowly stroked it, wiping off tears as they fell. “I’m sorry, I didn’t know. I’m here now, what can I do to help.”
Bucky was trying to calm himself down, taking in deep breaths. “Can you just be there for me. Physically.”
“Of course.” Your face shifted to a smile, trying to ease the distressed hero. “Ready to go back in? I’m right here.”
Bucky took a deep breath, before nodding in agreement. The both of you walked into the medical room that Bruce had walked into. You could only assume it’s the room Bruce was working in earlier, as it’s one of the only with a reclining chair.
“Okay Bucky, want to retry this?” Bruce saw you both walk in. He nodded, as he took a seat in the chair. It didn’t look too threatening, but it definitely seemed to have triggered Bucky. You grabbed a spare chair and sat directly next to Bucky, flesh hand in yours.
“Bruce, what have you already done, and what needs to be done?”
“I was able to examine his teeth, checking for cavities and cracks and such. He’s all good. I was just going to start the cleaning when he blacked out.”
Bucky’s eyes went to his feet, he felt a wave of embarrassment rush over him. Your grip strengthened, as your thumb continued to softly rub his hand.
“Okay. Let’s try it again. Buck, let’s talk through what’s stressing you out.” His eyes went wide, feeling uneasy.
He pointed to the electric cleaning tool Bruce had perched on the side. “That.”
“Can I see it, Bruce?”
“Um, why?”
“I want to show him it doesn’t hurt.”
“Stick your hand out.” You did as he said. Bruce took your hand and placed the whirring brush on your hand, which made you laugh as it actually tickled.
“See Buck, it doesn’t hurt. It won’t hurt. It’s going to make your teeth feel like they’re brand new.” You flashed him a reassuring smile.
“Okay, just get it over with.” He leaned his head back and opened his mouth. Bruce and yourself looked at each other, before shrugging and getting to work. Bruce carefully worked on cleaning Bucky’s teeth, being as gentle as a feather. Your hand continued to stroke Bucky’s, as his fingers twitched nervously. Your other free hand reached up to Bucky’s forehead, gently stroking it. You watched as Bruce did his thing, and as Bucky silently suffered through it all.
“All done!” Bruce leaned back from Bucky’s mouth.
“You’re done Buck, it’s over.”
His tongue ran over his teeth, which made you let out a giggle. “How do they feel?”
“Smooth. You were right, it’s amazing.” His amazement at his newly polished teeth made you smile and laugh even more.
“Okay Bucky I won’t have to see you for another year yeah? You did so good, though.”
“Thanks Bruce. Sorry this all happened, but thank you for calling Y/N, she really helped me with this.”
“It’s no problem. Thank her for coming.” Bruce smiled towards you. Bucky’s head turned to you as he smiled at you as well.
“Come on Buck lets go.” You said as you took his hand, pulling him away. Bucky and yourself thanked Bruce again before hurrying out of the med bay. Bucky stayed silent the entire time you and him made your way back to your rooms. You were getting very close to him, and everyone knew it. Nothing has been established relationship wise, but you and him are attached at the hip. You didn’t know how he felt about you, and he seemed to be dealing with a lot so you never pushed it.
“Y/N I, i’m slightly embarrassed about what just happened.” Bucky was leaning against your door frame, as you stood right outside the room.
“Don’t be.” You grabbed his flesh hand with both of yours, softly holding it. He let out a nervous chuckle, looking down at you with admiration.
“I feel so stupid. I couldn’t control my anxiety. I felt so horrible.”
“You aren’t stupid. I didn’t know you had dental anxiety, I would’ve tried to help you beforehand.” Your voice was soft.
“I didn’t either. Everything about being in the reclining chair, to loud noises and metal tools I don’t know it just freaked me out.”
“And that’s okay. Nothing wrong with it. No one expects you to have completely healed from everything, Buck. It’s okay to be afraid or nervous, it only makes you more human.” And with your words, Bucky was leaning down placing his mouth on yours, tenderly kissing your lips.
“I’m, sorry I-, I hope that was okay?” His words came out as stuttering. A full, happy smile flooded across your face. This man, who meant so much to you, finally made a move.
“Absolutely. Do it again.” He complied as he grabbed your face and kissed you harder. Soft kissing turned into making out, which turned into full body touching that had you and him lying together on your bed. Kisses and body touches were exchanged, as the two of you played around.
“This is, amazing Buck oh my goodness.”
“Sorry it took me so long. I had to figure out my mind, which I never can, but today just made me realize, I’m never going to find someone who cares about me as much as I care about them. Her. As much as I care about her.” You smiled widely at him before taking him in for another kiss.
