The PC approaches the farmhouse at the top of the hill.
Dorian: The horsemaster, I presume?
Cassandra: This must be Master Dennet
Solas: This must be the horsemaster.
Varric: I suppose this must be Master Dennet.
They enter and the PC speaks to the man inside.
Dennet: So you’re the Inquisition, eh? Hear you’re trying to bring order back. It’s high time someone did.
Dennet (Qunari PC): Never thought it’d be one of you big brutes, though.
Dennet (dwarf PC): Never thought it’d be a mule-rider from the Carta, though.
Dennet (Dalish PC): Never thought it’d be a halla-rider from the wildlands, though.
Dennet (human mage PC): Never thought it’d be a mage, though. Redcliffe’s had enough trouble with magic already.
Dennet (human non-mage PC): Didn’t expect it to be some Free Marches noble, though.
Dennet: Name’s Dennet. I served Arl Eamon for thirty years as horsemaster. I hear your Inquisition is looking for mounts.
General: That’s right. [1]
General: And you haven’t helped? [2]
General: You need to help us. [3]
1 - General: That’s right.
PC: It is. Can you help us?
Dennet: Not at the moment. [4]
2 - General: And you haven’t helped?
PC: Is there a particular reason you’re making me come here to ask you in person instead of just sending them?
Dennet: As a matter of fact, yes. [4]
3 - General: You need to help us.
PC: If you want what’s best for Redcliffe, you’ll provide us with horses.
Dennet: I do want what’s best for Redcliffe… but you’ve got some work to do first. [4]
Dennet: I can’t just send a hundred of the finest horses in Ferelden down the road like you’d send a letter.
Dennet (pre-IYHSB): Every bandit between here and Haven would be on them like flies on crap.
Dennet (post-IYHSB): Every bandit between here and Skyhold would be on them like flies on crap.
Dennet: You’ll have mounts once I know they won’t end up as a cold winter’s breakfast.
Investigate: Got a problem with me? [6]
General: I agree to your terms. [7]
General: You assume we have the time. [8]
-Blackwall slightly disapproves
General: This is foolish. [9]
-Blackwall slightly disapproves
-Sera slightly disapproves
6 - Investigate: Got a problem with me?
PC: If you have a problem with me personally, I’d like to know about it.
Qunari PC
Dennet: What? I’ve got no quarrel with the Qunari. No idea how you ride without your feet dragging on the ground, but that’s between you and the mount. [back to 5]
Dwarf PC
Dennet: What? This because I called you a mule-rider? Maker, any beast that can haul a wagon of lyrium through the mountains and not go mad is damned impressive. [back to 5]
Dalish PC
Dennet: What? This because I called you a halla-rider? Those halla are damned majestic beasts. I’d give my right arm to ride one. [back to 5]
Human mage PC
Dennet: What? Because of what I said about mages? All the trouble magic’s causing around here, might well take a mage to fix it. That’s all I meant. [back to 5]
Human non-mage PC
Dennet: What? No, I’ve got no bad blood with Free Marchers. Maker, I had kin flee to Kirkwall when the last Blight tore this land apart. [back to 5]
7 - General: I agree to your terms.
PC: That sounds more than reasonable.
Dennet: Glad to hear it. [10]
8 - General: You assume we have the time.
PC: I’m sure the Inquisition has plenty of time to win the confidence of a retired stablehand.
Dennet: Yes, and then this retired stablehand will get you some real horses, instead of the crow bait you’ve got now. [10]
9 - General: This is foolish.
PC: You’re wasting my time.
Dennet: Better than you wasting my horses. [10]
Dennet: My wife Elaina manages the farms, and Bron’s in charge of my guards. They’ll tell you what they need. Until then, you deserve something better than whatever knock-kneed plow nag they gave you. The chestnut over there is a purebred Fereldan forder. Take care of him, and he’ll take care of you, Inquisition.
