exactly!!!! it's why I also think (and I think you said this too) that it doesn't matter that much if by the end of the show they're not "canon" (as we know it by default) because at this point in the series it's just so obvious how important they are to each other and how they will choose each other above everything else and that feels like it's the only thing that really matters in the show atp askdjh
YES YES YES fully agree!! "choosing each other above everything else" I'm just gonna cry about this for a while, it's the core of the romanticism in both pairings for sure!!!

Would rizzoli and isles be under this umbrella?
Ooh, yeah! For me, it's definitely a show that's much more about the two of them than a lot of other characters/relationships, since they do remain that central focus. However, since it's a procedural it does lose a bit of the intensity I feel like XWP and Hacks have, since you can't separate the characters and plot the way you can with a crime show? And there is definitely an ensemble aspect to R&I, even though Jane and Maura are the center. So, certainly closer than most other pairings on my list, but not quite to the level of XWP/Hacks for me? (Regardless, I'm really craving a rewatch of R&I now, thanks 🤭)
