It was a long time for anyone to be asleep.
Johann was asleep, there was no real doubt about that. Oh, his eyes were half open, and he spoke, albiet in a soft, dreamy monotone. But as far as his conscious mind was concerned, he was in a deep sleep, and had been kept that way for days. Anytime he had shown signs of waking, Dr. Azel or one of his monstrous servants had used drugs or hypnosis to put him right back into his trance state.
But things were happening. There was no one here now, the 'good doctor' preoccupied with new developments. And left unattended, Johann finally was given the chance to stir.
His eyes blink, the haze seeming to clear from them. He is dizzy, he feels sick from the heavy doses of drugs he's been doped with. If his stomach wasn't empty, he'd probably throw up.
He wasn't tied or chained down. Azel hadn't felt the need. Gingerly, Johann rises from the chair, getting to his feet. His legs are wobbly, and he steadies himself with one hand.
Fritz. He needs to find Fritz. He remembers pain and agony- they seemed but as dreams, but he knows better. Something awful had happened to his beloved. And despite his own swimming head and weak limbs, Johann knows that he needs to get to Fritz no matter what the cost, and somehow escape from this horrid place.
He tests the door, hoping it was left unlocked.
