The sirens were basically screaming over Iwatobi; it was the middle of the night, but the sky seemed ablaze. Flames licked their way up into the air, and enormous billows of smoke polluted the seaside of Iwatobi; this fire was huge, Makoto could tell from afar, and he was worried for both the safety of the people close to it. That, and he wondered why they hadn’t received word sooner -- if a fire gets reported quick enough, they can sometimes prevent it from breaking out and getting uncontrollable. This, however, seemed beyond saving, Makoto knew as the familiar heat burned its way into his lungs, and he basically flew out of the truck, yelling instructions once they arrived.

After five hours and dawn breaking over them, the fight was over.

They had managed to save most of the residents, only a few had been badly harmed by wrecked timber, and several had been taken to the hospital in assumption of smoke intoxication. One child had its arm severely burned, and while it had always pained Makoto to see people getting hurt in these fires, it was especially bad when it were children. The kid trembled and shook and cried in his arms, and her voice still ringed in his ears-- louder and more scathing than any siren ever could. He was tired and dusty, but thankfully, none of their crew got hurt this time. The café, however -- it was practically a skeleton, surrounded by cinder and dust and broken dreams, and Makotos shoulders sagged a little. He liked visiting this café, and seeing it being devoured by flames and beyond salvation just added another pain to his already broken heart. Makoto looked around, and to his surprise (and relief), he saw a familiar face -- he excused himself for a moment and left for the young man who was just standing there, staring at the remainder of the café.

Makoto blushes, seeing the intense look on Haru’s face and he doesn’t know if he’s ever seen that kind of stare on him before. 

Haru has many kinds of stares; Makoto’s known him long enough to see pretty much all of them. He has a stare for when he’s unamused, and for when he’s joking around and trying to hide it. He has a stare for when he’s planning to jump into water, and when he sees a particularly delicious piece of mackerel. He has a stare when he sees something that he thinks is beautiful and artistic, and he has a stare when he feels inspired by something. 

But this stare, this one that Haru is giving him right now, is one that Makoto’s never seen before. It’s intense like when Haru sees something that inspires him, but excited like he’s getting ready to swim. It’s soft, like when he’s creating something with his hands, but deep that it makes his eyes shine, making Makoto feel like he’ll fall right into him. 

“I...” Makoto doesn’t know how to return the emotion that Haru’s showing him without feeling overwhelmed, he doesn’t know how to process it. He reaches to touch Haru’s cheek, a smile coming over his face without having control over himself. It makes him step closer, toe to toe with Haru, and he can comfortably rest his arms on Haru’s shoulders, both hands holding Haru’s cheeks, fingers tracing his jaw line, and thumbs caressing his cheeks. 

☄: What would your muse wish upon a star for?

//i imagine it changes as he gets older. when he’s little he wishes that his dad isn’t allergic to cats anymore so he can bring cats home with him and keep them all. when he’s maybe around elementary school he wishes that he isn’t scared of water and is a good older brother to his siblings.

//in high school he wishes for rin to come back and be friends with them again, and then for haru that he might find a dream that he’ll be happy with. 

//in college and after he probably doesn’t wish for much anymore, since he’s happy with everything that is happening in his life already. but his friends probably have wishes for him, which makes me a bit of a sap so shush

☁: What is your muse’s ideal weather?

//he has two ideal weathers. first one is kind of colder, not quite freezing yet, but getting there. its still sunny out but it’s maybe windier. makoto loves wearing big frumpy sweaters and owns a lot of soft scarves, so he likes that weather so he’s all warm and cuddly 

❣ How salty are you feeling right now?

//kind of salty actually. work called me in 30 mins before they wanted me to come in, so i skipped breakfast, and then they kept asking me if i could stay longer even though i kept telling them i have class you can’t keep me here

♦ What was a mildly annoying thing that has happened to you rp wise?

//i don’t often get too annoyed... i feel like this’ll hurt feelings LOL this is A TOUCHY TOUCHY QUESTIIIOOONNNN well i guess anything that i consider a pet peeve. it’s annoying if i get a short reply that tries to cover a lot of ground in three sentences or less. i can deal with short replies, but not if you’re trying to rush through three weeks worth of rp.

☢ What fads/trends are you so over?

Makoto knocked on the door to Haruka’s apartment once more, using his forearm to wipe the seemingly never-ending trickle of sweat from his brow. “Haru? Are you home?” He called out, staring down at the box between his feet. He reached out and tried the door handle, sighing in relief when he felt it resist – either Haru had finally taken to locking his door or wasn’t back from class yet. When the two of them first moved to Tokyo, Makoto had to constantly remind Haru to always keep his door locked. This wasn’t the small town of Iwatobi anymore, and although Makoto missed the quaint easiness of it, the two of them needed to be more careful in the city. 

Digging into his pockets, Makoto procured a set of keys and fiddled through them until he found the spare Haru had given him. He unlocked and opened the door, calling out “I’m coming in!” as he entered. He reached down to pick up the box at his feet and hauled it into Haru’s compact apartment. The temperatures in Tokyo had been rising to an all-time high in the past weeks, a strange and rather annoying occurrence. The city was stuffy and sizzling, with businessmen and women tugging at their ties and dress shirts as they walked to work. Being small and on a high floor, Haru’s apartment in particular had become a sweltering hotbox. Haru had multiple fans constantly whirring back and forth, but he had to finally give in and buy an air conditioner.

The only issue with that was Haru’s apartment complex was very finicky about large packages, so Makoto elected to have the air conditioner mailed to his address. It was a smart idea in theory, until it arrived late that morning and Makoto had to heave the heavy box from his own apartment, on the metro, then up the stairs to Haru’s door. At this point, he was exhausted and drenched in sweat.

“Haru, are you home?” He called out again as he carefully set the box down nearby a living-room window, out of breath. He went back to lock the door before going into the kitchen to pour himself a glass of water. He gulped it down quickly before pouring another glass, tugging rapidly at the front of his shirt to try and fan himself. He hadn’t heard any response from Haru, so he assumed his best friend was either still at school or practice, or was submerging himself in a bath of cool water. If the latter were true, Makoto wouldn’t blame him. Since Haru didn’t have an air conditioner, stepping into a cold bath was about the only relief he could get. Not that sitting in the tub was anything new for Haru anyway.

Makoto padded back into the living room with his glass of water, removing his shoes and socks and plopping down in front of a fan. He fidgeted with his shirt some more before finally deciding to remove it altogether, exposing the thick, firm muscles of his torso that he'd built up from years of backstroke swimming. After a few moments, Makoto finally caught his breath and cooled off enough to get to work; he was eager to get the air conditioner up and running. The sooner it was installed, the better. He certainly didn’t want to make Haru wait much longer in this unbearable heat.
