Tried to not use too many lore-heavy words, however, there are still a few you need to know.

Avvar- groups of small tribes who operate independently of each other. The only unifying concepts that the Avvar share are their beliefs and culture. Auger- Avvar shaman who gives counsel to other mages and the Thane. In turn, an augur takes counsel from the spirits they deem gods and shares it with the hold. The Fade- Realm of spirits and demons usually only accessible during sleep. The Veil- the barrier between the Fade and the real world.

Hizashi doesn't initially start as a Desire Demon, rather he begins as a spirit of compassion drawn to Shouta who shines brighter than any mage he's ever encountered. He watches from a distance for some time, doing his best to protect the young human drawing so much attention to himself.

Shouta is born and raised among the Avvar, intended to take over as the Auger of his tribe from a young age due to his nature as a Dreamer, someone capable of stepping into the Fade at will with no aid, able to shape it and mold the dreams of those around him.

They meet when Shouta is a child lost and afraid within the Fade, able to feel an encroaching Demon before its presence is forced away by what Shouta knows is a Spirit, after that the Spirit remains in Shouta's periphery, wary of approaching but unwilling or incapable of ceasing to watch.  

Until Shouta decides to approach himself.

He gives the Spirit the name Hizashi and while he is unsure if the Spirit is capable of the same sort of emotional understanding as himself Shouta considers him a friend. And when the time comes for him to be possessed, so that he may learn control, it is Hizashi who does so.  Shouta does his best to hide his growing fondness for the Spirit, knows his own emotions could twist such a creature into an unrecognizable being of vitriol and resentment.

Shouta turns down the position of Auger and eventually leaves the hold to set off on his own, settling in an area where the Veil is thin and he can convince himself he can feel Hizashi in his waking hours.
