“Connor was asking about you,” Ava bumped her shoulder against Sarah’s as they walked, it was a casual gesture but one that held playful affection, making Sarah smile despite the tense look she gave Ava at her words. There was a bit of silence as they walked past a group of humans, leaves crunching under Ava’s boots loudly.

They were in some park in a city within the United States, a busy place that kept them hidden from most prying eyes, divine and mortal. Meeting anywhere else but Earth was far too dangerous, no other neutral ground between their realms existing during this millennium. So they would pick a time and a place to visit each other, meeting up whenever they had the time. It wasn’t what either of them desired, it wasn’t enough, but it would have to do.

“What does that mongrel want now?” Sarah rolled her eyes a little, annoyed at the man without ever having properly met him. Well, that’s untrue; she supposed they must have met some time in the past, maybe in a different form or another era. Still, the demon had some nerve from what she had heard and she wasn’t about to let some minor cacodaimon get between her and Ava.

“Relax, Angel,” Ava soothed, “He was just taunting me again. He’ll never actually out us, as much as he threatens. Lord Beelzebub doesn’t care enough to listen to minor daimons like us anyway.”

“I don’t like him.”

“I know. He’s not all bad, you know. He’s just a chaos spirit, he only wants to feed off the rage and annoyance of others.”

“He’s threatened you,” Sarah reminded her, “more than once.”

“And I’ve threatened him in return,” she laughed and slung her arm over the angel’s tense shoulders, trying to help her relax. It wasn’t a big deal; Connor was all talk and no action. Still, she could see Sarah was upset and it made her regret bringing this up.

“I’ll be fine, darling,” she promised, “Besides, you wouldn’t let anything happen to me, now would you?”

Sarah looked at her with a fire in her dark eyes that almost frightened Ava, “Of course not. I will destroy anything that so much as thinks of harming you.”

That made Ava’s heart skip a beat, figuratively anyway, because she knew Sarah meant it. She was a guardian angel after all and they tended to be almost as fierce as archangels. Nothing got in the way of those the angel was assigned to care for or anyone that had the affection of said being. Even glancing at Sarah’s true form could blind someone, so Ava couldn’t imagine the damage she could do if she was angered enough to smite.

"Just hold me," she mumbled while her hands reached for her lover, "For a moment, please."

Ava couldn't say no to the plead, especially not when Sarah looked up at her like that. She settled down on the immaculate hotel bedspread, taking Sarah into her arms. They often found themselves in this situation, sharing a hotel room in some random human city. It was the only way they could ensure they weren't being tracked by either Heaven or Hell. It wasn't perfect and neither being felt like it was enough, but it was all they could do.

"My Angel," Ava hummed as she let Sarah tug her into a comfortable laying position, "You'll be the death of me."

"I would hope not," Sarah answered after a moment of shifting, trying to press as close into her lover's arms as she could. She had missed this, feeling like they hadn't seen each other for eons. It had been maybe two human years since she held her Ava like this, though it could be seen as a mere day for such beings. The different progression of time didn't matter though, Sarah was sure she would miss her after even a day.

"Relax, love," gentle hands ran over her back soothingly, "I am yours, you know that? Not even death would keep me away from you."

As if to prove her words, the blonde let her human glamour fade slightly. She would never let it go completely, simply because it could harm both of them to see the other's true form. Still, the release was enough to let her energy go, smoky trennels inching their way up and around the angel in her arms. Sarah's celestial energy responded accordingly, the light was almost blinding at first, though it dimmed the second it brushed against Ava.
