Blerd Conspiracies: 5 Reasons To Give Diggle A Cape #DemBows
In todayâs âBlerd Conspiracies,â I wanted to discuss the role of John Diggle and five reason why Diggle deserves to be given a cape. By cape, I mean that Diggle should be given the opportunity to become a superhero in his own right, on his own terms, within the mythology of the Arrowverse.Â
#5: According to the Arrow-verseâ own story-logic, a person cannot be given a cape without having gone through a crucible.  That is, a person develops an alter-ego that is forged by  suffering and loss. John Diggleâs brother Andy was assassinated, according to Deadshot/Floyd Lawtonâs account, H.I.V.E. a villainous tech organization we will see in season 4. Diggle has witnessed his home the Glades destroyed at the hands of Malcolm Merlin. From day one, Diggle has been there for Ollie through thick and thin. Crucible? Check.Â
#4. Diggle is a family man, he is married to âformerâ A.R.G.U.S. agent and fellow Afghanistan war veteran Lyla Michaels (now Diggle). He has a daughter Sarah. It seems like Diggle isnât gonna leave Ollieâs side anytime soon. For the sake of his familyâs safety, he needs an alter ego of his own.Â
#3. Experience. Not to knock Black Canary Laurel, the character everyone loves to hate (I myself have been trying to accept the casting from day one as a Ruby #SPN fan), but John Diggle has far more experience from being in the military, his joining the crusade with Oliver, and his teaming up with the Suicide Squad. John Diggle prefers to handle guns, sure and thatâs gonna be a problem but he is more than capable of hand-to-hand combat. Just donât give him a bow-and-arrow. Didnât really work out while Oliver Queen was figured for dead (see the episode âLeft Behind.âÂ
#2. Character Arc. If John Diggle is to become more than just a token, season four HAS to be the year that Diggle puts on a cape. Diggle is far more skeptical of the paranormal. He was freaked out at Barryâs speed in the Flash Vs Arrow episodes. Diggle still reminds us that the Mirakuru soldiers were monsters and the destruction they wrought. What better way for Arrow to give Green Arrow some help than by empowering John Diggle with a Green Lantern ring (magical or cosmic), or an Indigo staff. The Emotional Spectrum was introduced in Flash Vs Arrow, with the Rainbow Raider using red beams to cause citizens of Central City to act out of rage. Another possibility is for Diggle to be given a Dwarf-Star alloy suit or something similar to what Ray Palmer has. Before there was Nick Fury, John Stewart according tone of my friends who is a long time Green Lantern fan, was the leader of the DarkStars. Thereâs also a relationship to Manhunter (see third ep of season 3), who also wore an exo-suit.Â
#1. The fanbase. Lastly, I think the demand by the fans should also be taken into consideration. Arrow has a huge following, and trends regularly on twitter thanks to Black Girl Nerdsâ #DemBows hashtag. We are well aware that Dave Ramsey, the actor who plays Diggle, is in talks with the producers to become a superhero, we just do not know who yet. Hopefully this all comes to fruition by the midpoint of Season 4. Oliver is gonna need all the help he can facing off versus an organization like H.I.V.E.Â
