i’m (mostly) content with not knowing the names of a decent chunk of the freelancers. a little mystery can be a good thing, and i think some questions are okay to be left unanswered. doesn’t bother me that much. (although it would be really funny if burnie decided to retroactively give a bunch of them names on twitter or something now that the show is over. "oh btw guys, maine's name was craig")
but sometimes. sometimes i think about how when tex finds york in out of mind and calls him york, he says that he hasn't been called that in a really long time.
which implies to me that while they were alone, he was able to get delta to start calling him by his real name - something delta would not repeat where anyone else could hear, not even after york’s death.
when do you think delta said his name for the first time?
was it at york’s coaxing? was he actively trying to get him to do it - assuring him that it was okay, that he wouldn't get in trouble? was it something he worked at for ages in the hopes of it bringing them even closer? trying to prove they could still work outside the context of the project? that they would be okay?
or was it a spur of the moment decision on delta’s part? maybe said in a moment of panic after an injury, worry overshadowing everything else and feeling a need for something stronger to call him, something with a greater impact? was it a loud exclamation in a passionate heated moment - or perhaps said quietly in a gentle one, whispered softly into the night like lovers do. it’s part of what makes us human, delta.
actually, maybe it's okay we don't know york's name. maybe some things aren't for us to hear.
