On the contrary. I have no problem condemning the Israeli government's policies toward and treatment of the Palestinians, which I believe are not only cruel, but counterproductive.
What I have a problem with is treating Zionism as the only type of ethno-cultural nationalism with a bloody and sordid past and present. It's a particularly big blind spot because Zionism is not even the only type of ethno-cultural nationalism with a bloody and sordid past and present in West Asia, let alone the world.
In terms of body count in West Asia, Zionism can barely hold a candle toward Turkish nationalism in particular. You should try asking an Armenian, Greek, or Kurd sometime how they feel about Turks.
Yet, you lot seem aggressively uninterested in Turkish nationalism and certainly don't write blog posts calling for Turkey or Azerbaijan to be nuked or all their people murdered en masse.
Nor do many of you regularly advocate for the Kurds, despite them being a stateless people who have been received godawful treatment at the hands of the governments of Syria, Iraq, and Turkey for over a century. (Though, to be fair, many of you lot don't even seem to know who the Kurds are.)
So, why is that?
Is it because you didn't know about the massacres, deportations, and genocides that accompanied the founding of Turkey?
Is it because you only developed an interest in West Asia after the start of the Gaza War?
Is it because you view Jews as White Europeans and are therefore believe they are especially deserving of condemnation?
Or is it because you share the myopic overlook of previous generations of Western Leftists, who were often especially critical of Israel because of its alliance with the United States and poor relationship with the Soviet Union?
Some other reason?
Tell me, Will.
