It's my original verse, ones with deities! When a chosen soul dies, they will ascend to become a deity. These souls are handpicked by the higher deity itself!

The deity of Life, Khalid (or Najm), is a Bastard. Sewer rat. Liar and really good at twisting his words. He plays with people's lives and he's a dramatic bitch. Speaks in circles, confident, convincing. Designed to be an antagonist, at first, but he's a protagonist at heart. So I just made him a goddamn menace instead. He would sell your soul to the deity of War for a single potato chip. Although his flaws, he is focused and creative, even lovely when he feels like it. He is a creator, playing with his creation's lives and smiling at their frustrations. He will always give them a reward, however, a light at the end of the tunnel. He won't give them challenges that they can't overcome.

The deity of Death, Charon, is the opposite of Life. They're quiet, not the type for chatter, and they gloom and hover over every soul that Life made. They serve Life as the reaper of souls, giving them an out from life. They look like, well, death itself. Pale, with dark wings flowing like feathers. However, they are gentle, soft, truthful, attentive. They are everything Life is not. Gives every soul a hug as they lead them off to limbo, speaks in murmurs that gives comfort, even when it echoes eerily. They are always sad when someone dies, but they try to lead them to a better afterlife. They used to play the guitar, when they were alive, and they are best friends with the deity of Emotions (or Love, as she likes to be called.)
