it has been about a month since I turned 21 and entered legal adulthood. I am fortunate to have received a lot of birthday money. the first thing I bought today with that money: luggage. does that scream adulthood or what? as I stood at the cashier, charging my beautiful overused piece of plastic, I couldn't help but to get anxious about all the adventures Lisa and I would go on. (I named it Lisa Bonet because it is the most beautiful color I've ever seen and who wouldn't want to say they traveled with her? )
as I pray all people do, I have begun to really meditate on what the future holds for me. now that I am 21, I am moving closer and closer to the possibility of being trapped by societal responsibility" a.k.a. what I call settling into a stable and steady life. I will never know why that is not the life I would like to lead. I will also never know what I will do in my future until it comes, but isn't it our civic duty to mankind and ourselves to get ready, in every situation, to become our best selves.
I think it is important to check in with ourselves and allow our true desires to come out without judgment. here are some from my most recent meditation:
I will be secure financially with an unpredictable schedule
I will continue to experience all that I am able so I can better understand and empathize myself and others
I will become a woman that my younger self would look up to
I will accept the fact I will never have my 17 year old body again
I will embrace and thank my body for all the amazing things it does everyday to get me through
I will enter adulthood but never exit my childhood
i will spend as much time on beaches around the world with a phenomenal bottle of wine to match each scene
I will live each day with an unapologetic mentality
I used to write "I want to" but "I will" just makes it seems so much more attainable
