It might be seen as a rare occurrence, but Sanji really couldn’t recall the last time he had actually been sick. Or if he truly had been sick at all even before he managed to escape from Germa. There was a chance that Zeff obviously would be more aware during the times that he had fallen sick especially when he was a child. The man was always there when he needed him, a man who he quickly saw as a father because of the bond that they were able to create. It was because of Zeff that he had survived the time spent on that rock, they both lived despite the struggles that they had to deal with. 

He owned Zeff quite a lot while it was unknown if he would be able to make it up to him, but he was going to try. Sanji would have plenty to share with him once he was able to return to the Baratie if he could return there at all. Besides, he figured that his old man would hear about their adventures from the newspaper even though it wouldn’t be telling the truth especially if the marines decided to twist their words. 

Chopper must have realized that something was wrong even before he had the chance to notice, he hadn’t thought much about it. He just thought that it was normal exhaustion, he never had a regular sleep schedule in the first place. Sanji tried to take a nap when he was able to depending on the situation that the crew was dealing with. Things were never easy at sea because of the many threats that could make an appearance whether it was marines, pirates, or the weather itself. They couldn’t let their guard down while traveling across this changing sea. A lesson that Sanji was aware of even before he was free from Germa’s grasp. 

It was Chopper who ended up approaching him with that hoof resting against his forehead suddenly, the question was something that he expected though. 

“I am? I haven’t felt any different, you sure it’s just not your imagination, Chopper?”

The heavy burden which once sat upon his shoulders seemed to disappear after the familiar deck of the Thousand Sunny was underneath his feet. They were leaving Whole Cake behind, they were leaving his family behind and the arranged marriage which he had been roped into because of the decision Judge had made. It was the man’s greed and him unfortunately being the third son of the Vinsmoke family which caused Sanji to face that situation. A situation which he thought he had to face alone since there were important people at risk. 

"I'M FINE," comes his practiced - near automatic - response. followed by a horrific cough that rattles every bone in law's rib cage. that is followed by a trickle of blood that pours out the sound of his bruised lips. his flesh aches. his bones burn. every breath is belabored and tight. his lungs scream for reprieve from the pain ; but the pain is etching itself into his very being.

he looks at the straw hat doctor with narrowed eyes. wishing his body hadn't betrayed him but alas... he tips his hat forward to give himself some decency.

"the wound isn't deep-"

@deerdoc sends " zoro , stop ! you really should be resting ! " the doctor would warn the swordsman grabbing the bandages that zoro had started to remove himself .

grey eyes throw a glance back at the doctor, as a hand rubs absentmindedly at his shoulder. he wonders why it's so hard to move, he took the bandages off. wonder why? zoro finally thinks to turn away from the doctor, " i can't be resting right now. I have to get my body back into condition. "

it's only then he gets hit with a sack of bricks in the back of his head, " oi ! "

before he speaks, she smells the sugar in the air. it waters her mouth, and she turns as chopper speaks, glitter over her eyes.

" oh ! what flavor is it ? " she asks with curiosity, " i'd love to share. " lips pull over her teeth in a bright beam, as fingers reach out to pluck a small string of sugar off the pile finishing the movement by going right into her mouth.

There was no keeping the smile off of Ikkaku’s face as she showed Chopper around the submarine. Really, it was a pity the adorable little doctor hadn’t been part of the half of the Straw Hats that had traveled to Wano with them - she probably would have warmed up to the alliance much quicker with how endearing he was. But ah well, she’d come around regardless, and now she had the opportunity to hear him gush about her beautiful ship.

Her cheeks hurt with how hard she was smiling at his praise. Sure, she couldn’t fully talk about the ins-and-outs of the Polar Tang’s workings to him like she could with Franky, but it was hard not to be flattered at Chopper’s enthusiasm. “Yeah, she’s a damn impressive vessel. I’m proud to be her engineer. But trust me, doc, you haven’t even seen the part I know you’ll love the most.”

Leading him to a steel door, she swung it open with a flourish, revealing a room full of medical equipment like heart monitors, defibrillators, x-ray machines, and more. She’d built or modified much of it, and while she knew Chopper was quite the advanced doctor, she doubted the Sunny had half the stuff Law’s infirmary did.

Chopper was the first person from their crew to greet him outside of those doors while he knew that he would have to find a way to make it up to them somehow. It seemed that the little doctor wasn’t angry with him because of the reaction he was given. Sanji had a habit of doting on Chopper while he didn’t hesitate spoiling him when he wanted to. He made his favorite treats, allowed him to help in the kitchen or travel into town together when they were wanting to look around the area. 

It might have been because he was an older brother even though the relationship with his siblings was on rocky ground. The doting could have been because Chopper was the youngest and Sanji cared a lot about him. He always would, they did have a strong bond which started from the moment that this journey started on the island covered by snow. 

A smile graced his lips moving to catch the small doctor without a second thought. He would have to make sure to create his favorites once they were back onboard the ship that was their home “Hi Chopper.”
