Pt 3 of the polycule going feral. This time it's Zayne. Bc that's the mutual's husband and also they asked
Elyse had, admittedly, made a bit of a mess.
In their defense they had been left unsupervised in Zayne's very large, very nice kicthen,
Not in their defense, the only reason they were unsupervised in Zayne's very large, very nice kitchen was because they let themself in while he was still at work.
Listen. They had blanket permission to use Zayne's much more well stocked and well equipped kitchen to bake whenever they wanted. The good doctor had made that very clear to them.
They were fairly certain that it was because he liked the fact that they left a good portion of the sweets they baked behind.
"Ugh," They scrunched up their nose, looking at the mess both on themself and around them.
They did not want to clean that up. But also this was Zayne's house and Zayne's kitchen and he was being nice in letting them borrow it and they didn't want to be rude—
"Looks like someone's been busy," A voice called from the enterance to the kitchen.
"Oh! Zayne," They whirled around. "I didn't realize I'd been here so long."
They had came basically immediately post-mission, only stopping to shower at their apartment before hand.
"You likely haven't," He tugged his time, loosening the knot as he walked forwards. "I finished up early."
There was something... different about his gate that they couldn't quite place.
"And you didn't stay and do extra work?" They hummed. And— that was odd. Zayne was getting oddly close. "That's unlike you."
"I suppose it his," He hummed low in his throat. "I had to leave to go find a wayward pearl."
Elyse' back hit the edge of the counter, and before they could move they found themself caged in by two scarred arms.
"Tell me," Zayne continued. "Why is it that I had to hear from Maycie that you just finished a dangerous mission when you should have stopped by the hospital for a check up?"
"I didn't get hurt," They looked around, but a hand caught their chin and forced them to look Zayne in the eyes. "The mission wasn't even that dangerous and I knew you were doing back to back surgeries and Grey is out celebrating with his partner. It would have been a waste of time if I went and waited for you."
Zayne didn't respond, resolute in his silence.
"But I did make sure to shower after to make sure I was fine!" They scrambled to fill that silence. "You know water can fix me up from anything. So it's fine."
Zayne sighed, shifting his grip from pinching their chin between his fingers to grabbing their whole jaw, his pinky and ring finger resting against their neck.
"Tell me," He said firmly. "What have I said about referring to getting proper medical care as a 'waste of time?'"
"Not to," They answered softly. "But— that's not what I meant. It's not that medical care is a waste of time— you have a very, very important job —I just didn't want to waste your time when I wasn't even hurt. Especially when you were so busy today and there wasn't anyone else who could see me."
One of Zayne's rules was that the only ever doctor they could go to was Greyson. Something about him not trusting others to actually listen to their file. Which wasn't an unfounded belief given they'd been slipped medicine a lot when dealing with medical professionals.
"Taking care of you is never a waste of my time," Zayne exerted a little force onto their jaw to keep them from trying to squirm away. He even went so far as to push them down so their back was against the counter as he leaned, almost loomed over them. "It seems I have to remind you of this fact."
