NYT Attempts to Smear Brett Kavanaugh, Avalanche of Impeachment Calls Ensues
NYT Attempts to Smear Brett Kavanaugh, Avalanche of Impeachment Calls Ensues
The NYT  dropped an article online Saturday  by two of their writers, Robin Pogrebin and Kate Kelly, that once again attempted to smear Justice Brett Kavanaugh. They supposedly reached out to Yale alumni, noneof whom recalled any incident like they described. Never deterred, the NYT printed it anyway, touching off a firestorm of Democrats calling for the impeachment of Justice Kavanaugh. Why? To…

They invite you to the game, but they never show you the rules or where the equipment is.”

I’m impressed Senator Heidi Heitkamp (D - ND) already came out and said she was a “No” on Kavanaugh.Â
I would have bet money that her and Manchin (D - WV) were going to wait and see how Republicans Flake (AZ), Murkowski (AL) and Collins (ME)Â were going to vote before deciding.
If you live in North Dakota, go give her some money.
As the right-wing media smear and dismiss Christine Blasey Ford and Deborah Ramirez, organizers, activists, and individuals are making their support for all survivors heard.

A Letter from the Editors: the Kavanaugh Hearings
For immediate release 27 Sept 2018
Dear Readers:
Like many of you, our team has been closely following the allegations of sexual assault brought against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, Deborah Ramirez and most recently Julie Swetnik. These women have shown great courage in coming forward with their stories, knowing that it could be the thing that demolishes their careers and reputations as well as having lasting effects for not only themselves but their families as well. And nevertheless, they came forward with the truth. We have seen the pushback from politicians trying to delegitimize what has clearly been a traumatic event in the women’s lives, prioritizing politics over people.
There is a misconception amongst many that there is a correct and straightforward way to report instances of sexual abuse and assault contemporaneously. There is not. There are many reasons why a victim would not come forward in the moment. Even when a victim does come forward in the moment, their claims are not always taken seriously by law enforcement and medical professionals. There are often systemic issues, and sometimes cultural influences, standing between a victim and retribution that need to be addressed and corrected.
The advent of the #MeToo movement gives us hope that the culture of our nation is changing. However, an integral part of that change starts with truly listening to victims and taking them seriously. No matter when a victim comes forward with their story, we the editors will stand with them in solidarity.
If you know of someone who is also struggling (and you probably do, even if they haven’t told you so), we encourage you to share this list of resources with them:

What Dr. Ford, Ms. Ramirez and Ms. Swetnik are doing is very difficult, but necessary. We hope this is a step towards their healing and we look forward to learning their truth.

Tucker Carlson and other right-wing media figures are blaming survivors of sexual assault for not reporting. Survivors, like Lauren Sivan, know how traumatizing it can be for women to come forward.
