Created and directed by Michael Enzbrunner, Death Van is an animation short where the space-rock duo DEATH VAN tours through a miniature world inhabited by surreal creatures that are haunted by a menacing and nightmarish entity. The film has been awarded with the prestigious TAIS Animation Showcase 2017. Enzbrunner is a Toronto based visual artist and animator.
He usually uses Maya for all his animation projects but for this one he specifically used Blender. The animation project started out from an artist in residence program at the Toronto Animated Image Society, where he was given the chance to develop the characters of the film. Michael's primary agenda was to create a dream-like, yet convincing miniature world with an analog look that is reminiscent of old stop-motion flicks. He said that he wanted to leave the audience with the feeling of having watched something like a "good" nightmare.
