/buries face in hands. How many times is his seiyuu supposed to say stuff like "he doesn't understand romantic love between humans" and literally every member in the cast, his age AND younger, pick up on romance he completely misses before people realize it's a stable character trait. Aromantic, aromantic, aromantic. Would he use or know the word? Nah, probably not. But is it what he pretty much seems to be? Yeah.
I mean.. I’m a fellow aro/ace myself. Hell, I didn’t know about that word for most of my life yet I clearly have been aro all my life. It’s easy for me to see Ash/Satoshi as aro. He clearly is. You don’t need to know the word to be one. You just are what you are. And Ash is what he is made to be. Dense and clueless about romantic stuff. I mean. SM072 is the most recent example of this XD

You're a good kind, person, and I'm sorry this website expect humans to have the moral dimensions of an sheet of printer paper and to advertise their good deeds to be not be immediately condemned. You didn't owe anybody any explanation that you took in a cat in need and saved her and her kittens' lives. You wanted to focus on some cute humour, instead of painting yourself out to be a saint for public praise--that's the sign of a truly good heart!! I'm sorry people are so cynical and cruel.
Awww, thank you so much, seriously! Â
But yeah, it is what it is, I might have considered the general attitude on tumblrdotcom before posting a random cute cat post without mentioning all of the details so I wouldn’t get lynched, but I failed to do so. We live, we learn, but thank you for being a star, you rock my socks! :D
Until Sakura Momoko's death, she would occasionally write stories for certain episodes and also the recent movie! She owes Maruko-chan's lasting power to the changes the anime made to keep her timeless (the anime /always/ depicts Momoko/Maruko as nine years old, unless it's a kindergarten flashback or otherwise-- but Momoko depicted herself/Maruko as a teen, too, and also also wrote essays about her adult years--one story, about her having appendicitis in her twenties, was adapted to
Interesting, though sad in the sense that she was still contributing to the show but can’t any longer. Hope they manage to pull through, Maruko-chan seems like the kind of show that deserves to just continue forever due to what it offers to its viewers, it’s role isn’t to complete some set plot but to be relatable and supportive for children and like you said, give the older generations realistic childhood nostalgia. I’ve been thinking about this in regards to Pokemon as well, where I believe that TV shows have specific functions in society and Pokemon’s simply isn’t to satisfy the fantasies of its older viewers, Satoshi’s duty isn’t to grow up, it’s to guide his fellow children, and we should judge the show based on how well it fulfills that task.
Pokemon anime has girls carrying dudes quite a bit, especially if you count pulling up to safety (there is maybe a single safe rope bridge in the Pokemon anime over the past two decades), bonus girls saving guys from drowning, etc. ( Jessie saves James a lot, in the Love and the Origin of Youth! special [dub was super bad for that, ouch] and May saves Drew innthe Wynaut episode). Jessie lifts James while he’s dressed as a ballerina way back in The Misty Mermaid!
I wasn’t aware of the specific instances, so thanks! I only ever watched a few eps of Pokemon as a kid! I do know Jesse and James are crossdressing legends though, so I’m not surprised that happened. Is it weird I have affection for those two even without remembering anything about the show? I do, though.Â
Yeah, same here. ;_; Although I've felt that way since SuMo started, I can't get invested in the characters too easily, they're out of focus or seldom struggle to show me what they're made of and capable of! They can be interesting when given focus, but overall, the show's too laidback or focus is more on Ash and occasionally Lillie with everyone else being the supporting cast until an episode is their chance in the limelight. Odd decision for a Pokemon anime!
Forcin the Lillie stuff is also understandable. She's a good character who can stand on her own, but the franchise overall is milking her for all she's worth because she'll only be around for this gen, it's just more overt with waaaaay more merch than we've seen before [N was close, Hikari/Dawn was a lighter case of this, etc.]. Marketing, I suppose.
This is probably slightly OT but since I’ve been watching the pokemon marathon a lot during the past few days, I kinda feel like comparing SM with OS now.Â
Honestly, I love OS (esp. the Kanto part and most of the Orange Islands... Johto is its own story) and while the nostalgia factor does play a role in it (I have seen those episodes more times than I can count, already when I was a little kid), it has things that would make me enjoy it even if I had never seen those episodes before. The characters were all new and fresh, the main trio had a good chemistry, they taught each other a lot, they had enough focus, cotd:s (such as Dublica) were memorable, and the entire time the plot was going towards one direction -> the league. While SM has a lot of those things, it doesn’t really have the character focus AND it doesn’t have a clear goal! While Ash will end up challenging the Alola league eventually, it doesn’t feel like something he’s been dreaming about for a long while, it’s just one stop during his Alola journey. I guess that’s what happens when he’s been trying to win for over 20 years and we know he will never be allowed to win... Which makes me think that as much as I love Ash (he /is/ my fave pokemon character), the writers would have done a smart decision if they had changed the protagonist sometime between Johto - AG - DP. Now... it might just be too late.Â
Uh, back to the topic. “they're out of focus or seldom struggle to show me what they're made of and capable of” Yup, you are right about that. Just mentioning one example: I would have been way happier about Tsareena evolving had she and Mallow had some kind of arc that would have built up towards the evolution. Now it just kinda happened without any real reason.Â
And yeah, I guess they are doing that thing with Lillie for the marketing reasons. I do still like what the anime did with Lusamine so I guess that compensates a bit!
@ all the people who like SM: sorry for being this negative, I guess I just wanted to get this out of my system and start enjoying the necrozma arc!

That gif of Satoshi cleaning the temple is from the last episode authored by Takeshi Shudo, head writer of the original series. Also one of the few explicitly religion-themed episodes. (inspired by a real world one, too, but also involving Pokemon)
Alright, but which episode number? :D It sounds like a very interesting episode!
