     The fact that he’s being watched has been obvious from the start. Instinct honed through years of training and combat is his first warning and with it comes the familiar and uncomfortable knowledge that he could very likely be prey caught in someone else’s sights. 

                  The hairs on the back of his neck stand on end and he’s high alert, sinking into a combat ready stance. A hundred scenarios play out in his head as he marks every escape route, every possible point of attack. And then he spots the culprit and reality comes crashing down. He scowls, angry with himself and with this stranger still brazenly staring at him even when caught in the act. This stranger and his ability to weigh a single hum with so much meaning that he knows he’s being judged… and likely found wanting. 

Hands clasped behind his back, William watched from the dock as his crew loaded boxes and bags of supplies onto his ship. In the growing twilight, with her sails furled and crimson flag lowered and stowed away, one could mistake the Melusine for an ordinary merchant brig. And she had sailed into Nassau's harbor regarded as such, remaining at anchor for several days without anyone recognizing her as the naval ship she truly was. William had made for the 'city' as soon as word reached him. While he hadn't the slightest interest in debasing himself to one of those Assassins who asked how high when told to jump, the brotherhood here involved itself in work of a far more interesting stripe than anything his commanders could offer him in the too calm waters that Fort-Royal overlooked. 

Even if it meant consorting with the very kind of people he hunted for a living. Yet are we not all supposed to regard each other as 'brothers'?

"Mary —" escaping her hand with a slight twist, Fillan reached up to her cheek and placed a kiss there, wrapping the thief-fingers around the edge of the thick fabric of her coat. "Tell me the truth." 

He paused a bit, seeming unusual serious about his case, “Do you come here for me —only when you have the time or nowhere better to go..? Or am I just … A nice side effect of visiting this town..?”
