Today we'll explore how to mindfully consume media. Many of us feel a responsibility to stay informed on world events but consuming news media can feel like we are waiting upstream in a volatile forceful river. The steady flow of conflicts and tragedies can leave us overwhelmed and exhausted. And to make matters worse much of the news are sensationalized with headlines and images crafted to ruffle our emotions and hook our attention. So while we want to be informed about our world we should also be mindful of how media impacts our wellbeing. The next time you are consuming news content whether scrolling through social media or watching the news be aware of how each story impacts you, notice which headlines you are drawn to and what feelings they provoke. Just as we do during meditation practice scan your thoughts and body to gain awareness of what's happening within. And after finishing the article or closing the browser tab, notice what thoughts or feelings you're left with. Is there a residue of irritability, pessimism, or discouragement did you notice physical discomfort in your body? As Mark Manson said "limitless access to knowledge brings limitless opportunity but only to those who learn to manage the new currency; their attention" so try to being the skill of mindfulness to your consumption of news. And as you notice and welcome habits consider implementing boundaries. Perhaps you will decide to consume media at designated time of the day or for a certain duration of time, perhaps you'll ignore certain news outlets or avoid the temptation of specific kinds of stories. Empower yourself to create a healthy relationship with media. Deep your toes into the river to stay informed but don't get swept up in the current; all the choas of our busy world may seem like it needs our attention but what actually needs our attention above all is our own wellbeing. #newbegining #dealingwithaddiction #overcomingaddictions #anxiety #dealingwithanxiety #howtodealwithanxiety #highperformancehabits #livingyourdream #dreamaudaciously #calmmeditation #dailycalm #dailycalmquote #anewyou #anewversionofyou #setyourintentions #serendipity #naturalproducts #healthylivingdaily https://www.instagram.com/p/B7SqAUcJ5wh/?igshid=l9j5vh3yx76y
