Hello Bouncey!!! I came here to say that I absolutely adore your deaf!jaskier. You've done such an incredible job. If you have the time, could we get some more? 🥺
hello! you sure can! I’m so honored and humbled that people send me these requests.
---
You’re a fucking idiot, Jaskier says, chuffing out a laugh. Jaskier’s laughs are unique, and each one has a different meaning. There’s a loud, obnoxious honk for when he’s told a good joke. There’s a sarcastic guffaw used to ward off boring stories from fellow travelers. Then there’s this one; and this one? The soft exhalation with very little vibration beneath it? This is the one Geralt associates with fondness and amused exasperation. Why can’t you just admit you like her?
Don’t like her, Geralt replies easily. His torso is twisted sideways atop Roach so that Jaskier can see his hands and face clearly. He makes a disgusted face. I’m not an idiot.
Jaskier shakes his limp hand emphatically in front of him, huffing and rolling his eyes in a gesture that means yeah, whatever. Geralt smirks.
I like... someone.
Who!? Jaskier bounces, signing the same phrase three or four times as his eyebrows raise all the way into his hairline. Now he’s excited. He has to know! Who is it!? Geralt!
The witcher’s name sign, the letter G dragged from Jaskier’s left shoulder to his right hip in mimicry of the witcher’s cross-body sheath strap, always gets his attention.
Jaskier had given Geralt his name sign after their third adventure together, a memory that the witcher would treasure forever. He’d made the movement and then placed his hand, that all-important hand, his way of making music and communicating with the world, right over Geralt’s racing heart. Geralt, he’d smiled brightly. I give you this name sign.
The witcher came back to reality with a few quick blinks and then asked his friend: What’s the big deal?
You... like someone? Jaskier had paused to shake both hands after the word you, clearly nervous about the topic of conversation. Why didn’t you tell me?
Didn’t want to upset you.
Oh. This one is spelled. O-H. Oh.
He’s pretty, Geralt sighs, letting his shoulders visibly relax with the movement so Jaskier understands. He blinks into the distance, smiling like a maiden with her first nervous suitor, overacting every expression so there’s barely a hint of nuance left. Soft looking, but not small. He’s strong. He will make a good partner on the path.
Good for you, Jaskier replies, his smile not quite reaching those cornflower eyes. Geralt bites back a nibble of guilt and decides to end the charade. For good.
Jaskier, he signs. The letter J swooped over the upturned wrist of his non-dominant side. The letter J and the sign for music. Perfect, really. Whoever had given it to him, likely a friend from university or back home, had understood the bard well. The witcher tries to get his attention again, Jaskier.
What?
It’s you. I love you.
Oh. Spelled with a smile this time. The bard yanks him sideways, toppling him from Roach’s saddle and into those capable arms. Geralt barely has a chance to catch his breath before the bard is kissing him, huffing out that fond little laugh over and over.
Happy? Geralt asks, pulling away for a moment.
With his hands already busy in Geralt’s hair, Jaskier answers with another kiss.

If you’re coming to this list from a reblog, please click through to the original post as it’s likely been updated with more content!
Please note I haven’t read everything on these lists, so I can’t speak to all they contain, ya dig?

Bouncey’s Deaf Jaskier fics - On the path - Jaskier whump & a love confession - Cute love confession - by @bounce-a-coin-off-your-witcher
- -
Blind Jaskier - Jaskier is born blind and navigates the world with a cane and dog, he finds Geralt and starts following him on the path - by @girl-in-red-crossing

--> I’ll note I’m being careful with this list. If a character loses their hearing or something strictly for whump purposes and/or the author doesn’t seem to have experience/have researched what they’re writing/etc, I won’t include the fic on the list. I may not add to it, which is why it’s sat in my drafts so long, but I think it shouldn’t die there haha.
I’m not really updating this anymore, I’m tired y’all. Please feel free to reblog with your own additions, or make your own list and link this one on it <3
I’ve been doing some spring cleaning in my google drive to see if I have any salvageable fics, and found these two completed. They’re not beta read (or proof read really, for that matter) but oh well. Two fics in one night!
The Space Between Breaths: Short vignettes in the life of an asthmatic traveling bard, from the chubby-cheeked little future Viscount to a grown man probably a little too old to be following around a witcher and his child surprise. Or, local asthmatic musician projects onto fictional character for 4k words.
One Word and the Blink of an Eye: Jaskier doesn't feel the greatest when he wakes up their third day on the mountain. His situation - like his travel - quickly goes downhill from there. When he finally wakes up in a strange bed to a healer he can't hear lingering over him, he really understands just how fragile life can be. (The Deaf!Jaskier prequel.)
I don't know if you remember me but I'm the original Anon who first mentioned deaf!Jaskier to you a while ago. I'm so glad to see that the fandom has gained more content on it!
Me, too! I’m so honored that you trust me to write something like this. I will do my best to represent deaf!Jaskier well.

Geralt slowed Roach to a halt and turned to face the bard, whose tongue was sticking out from between his lips. He was standing stock-still in the middle of the dirt path, his eyes squinting down at his lutestring. He glanced up at Geralt, signing hastily: This string will break soon.
The witcher nodded. We’ll get new ones soon.
Jaskier smiled brightly, contented, and slung the lute into its case. There was no point endangering his eyes or fingers by playing with strings that might break. The bard jogged up to Geralt’s side and tapped against his leg to get his attention. When the witcher glanced down, Jaskier asked: How much further today?
Six miles. Maybe more, maybe less. No town today, sorry.
That’s fine. I like the stars.
Geralt smiled. He was lucky to have a friend like Jaskier, who never gave up on him and always seemed to bring out the best side of his gruff, grumpy nature. He was sure it had something to do with the bard’s tenacity; who else could be born deaf and still devote their life to making beautiful music?
His signed poetry was also rather touching, but if Geralt ever said anything about it, it would go straight to the bard’s head. And that was large enough already.
The silence had never weighed heavily on Geralt, and it felt even more comfortable with Jaskier at his side, chatting to him with his hands when he felt like it, whistling softly once and awhile.
I love you, he said, hands safely within the confines of his cloak for now. Someday he’d be able to admit it for real, but not yet. He said it again just to feel the way his fingers moved through the words: I love you so much.
Hiiii bouncey <3 I hope youre doing well! i was wondering if I could maybe request some more deaf!jaskier? Love your writing and Thanks again <3<3
hello Anon! I would love to write some more deaf!Jaskier for you!
tw: none, just fluff. i'm having a fluffy kind of morning

"Geralt," Jaskier signed. "What are you thinking about?"
"Nothing, really. Just letting my mind wander."
"I can play you a song?" Jaskier raised his eyebrows to make his statement into a question. Geralt nodded and sank into a comfortable kneel. He let his eyes slip closed as Jaskier's fingers moved from conversing with him to strumming Sexy's familiar strings.
The bard hummed along, his voice and the instrument creating a perfect backdrop for meditation.
Yet all Geralt could focus on was the way the firelight spilled across the bard's youthful face, spilling shadows into his dimples and the crinkles near his eyes. Joy was a lovely look on Jaskier and Geralt, for all his faults as a man and a Witcher, was determined to make him as happy as possible.
He rested his hands on his knees, one relaxed and one carefully holding the simplified sign for I love you. Even in his rest, Geralt wanted Jaskier to know that he was safe. He was loved. He was in the Witcher's heart.

So, we're supposed to get potentially up to 16 inches of snow tonight, and there's a good chance work will be closed tomorrow and I'll be snowed in.
So! Send me prompts! You have two choices lmao
1. Leave an ask with a prompt; you can request any pairing, ask for either canon, Deaf!Jaskier or my modern AU - or suggest your own. Definitely want to try my hand at some whump for a change, so if that's your jam hmu.
2. The law of surprise lol. Drop a number 1-100 and I'll write a drabble or ficlet based on the corresponding song on my Spotify year-end top 100 playlist. You can request specifics, but I make no guarantees because the song will obviously be a surprise.
Anyway, ask away! I need something to do while I'm stuck. :)
Oh, these were some good ones, thank you especially for giving me an excuse to ramble about my proudest fic. :)
2. Why do you write fanfiction?
On the practical end, it is the single easiest way to receive actual feedback on my writing. There's a built-in audience you just don't get when you're writing original fiction, and therefore it's a great opportunity to practice and grow. That all said, it's a way to process media, create your own representation when it rarely exists in the mainstream, and most of all you become part of a community, which I really like.
5. What’s the fic you’re most proud of?
This is tough, but I'd say it's probably What Isn't Said, the first of my Deaf!Jaskier fics. I saw some prompts floating around, while I was new in the fandom. Then I saw an ask reply, where the anon (who was actually Deaf or HoH, iirc) was listing all these beautiful ideas for a Deaf Jaskier who was proud, who adapted, wasn't Deaf just for the sake of angst or whump, and I jumped on it. This prompt really captured my attention for two reasons. First, I personally am hard of hearing; I have APD, some mild-moderate hearing loss in the upper register, and tinnitus. Second, I happen to know a lot about hearing impairments and music, both through my own experience, a 20-page research essay on music education for Deaf and HoH students I did for one of my classes, and actually teaching tuba with a Deaf student. So getting to write a happy Deaf musician was very exciting for me, and I'm very pleased with the reception it's received so far. Each installment is screened by one of my Deaf friends, who's been absolutely wonderful to work with, and while it means the turnaround time on Deaf!Jask prompts is abysmal, I think it's very worth it, and I look forward to continuing it, as well as continuing to represent disability in fanfiction in general. (Actually, I have an EDS!Jask fic in the pipeline for BTHB, so stay tuned! 😊)
26. Is there anything you’ve wanted to write, but you’ve been too scared to try?
I don't particularly think so. I very notably have not written any smut, because I'm just not very good at writing it. It's not so much that I'm afraid though, so much as I just know that's not where my strengths lie. I guess the one thing I'm afraid of is, like I said with #5, I love writing disabled characters. But it's also one of those things that's super important to get right, at least in my opinion. So if it's not anything I've experienced (or at least something similar), and I don't have a sensitivity screener, it probably won't get written.
