#deacon rant

I keep thinking . . . should I applaud these people for never once challenging the shitty things they were taught by society and instead basking in the mire of willful ignorance and hatred?????

But at least Deacon is upfront ashamed and says he doesn't even deserve your friendship. So he has a full understanding of why he was wrong.

I can't remember if he says flat out that they were raiders, but I still consider them to be.

Even though I had enough Charisma to call all his bullshit and lies, I was still shocked by what he eventually told me. He really had me fooled the whole time, thinking he had always been this cool dude. Nope. He had a redemption arc. Whodda thunk???

And now it becomes clear why Deacon symapthizes with Danse so much -- he used to BE Danse.

Deacon's story also kinda reinforces everything I said about Gage. I said a while back that raiders in Fallout didn't have the excuse of being economically oppressed and turning to lives of crime to survive a pyramid society. If they wanted, they could settle down, farm, and build a community. Because there is no society of rich and poor to hold them back -- there is no such thing as being socially disadvantaged in the world of Fallout (unless you’re a in Diamond City). Raiders choose to raid because they're greedy scum.

Anyway. The point is, Deacon tells you how he went from being a raider to a farmer at the drop of a hat, even though his old raiding life eventually caught up with him.

I about died laughing. Then I realized what Deacon said was actually terrible . . . then I laughed somemore.

It really amuses me that Deacon doesn't like the Minutemen and Preston doesn't like the Railroad. They're both kinda hyprocrites for it.

Deacon thinks the Minutemen are small men with too much power -- yet that describes the RR almost exactly if the SS sides with them and helps them blow poeple up.

Meanwhile, Preston wants to protect all people but doesn't acknowledge that synths are people -- which is supposed to be ironic, the black guy being racist. It's the same way X6 -- the other black guy -- is basically a slave hunter/catcher.

Meanwhile, Glory is Harriet Tubman.

Preston does admit at one point that the Railroad doesn't sound "too bad." So he's one up on Deacon.

I love Deacon, though. He's the only follower who just makes me bust out laughing constantly, even if I heard the line before.

Deacon is now my favorite follower after Hancock. Dragging him and Hancock around together is actually pretty great.

I was doing the Liberty Prime quest, and the part where you meet the Atom priest protecting the nukes is really hilarious if you bring Hancock.

I imagined him hopping on one foot while he's taking off his socks and shoes and changing his shirt into another disguise while he and SS are in broad daylight, in the open.

Like . . . I want to help synths and stuff, and I feel like the Railroad has the most interesting quests (compared to the Minutemen and the BOS, which all boils down to fetch quests).

But Deacon is just so cool. The way he begs Desdemona like a puppy dog to let you join. The way he lies to make you look really awesome. It's kinda like his exaggerations are really how he sees you, this awesome badass who probably really could have carried him while fighting an army of synths. It's extra hilarious if SS is female.

And then the fact that Deacon has been watching you since you left the Vault -- it's very likely that he was Travis' informant -- and on top of that, he constantly sends work your way to help you out. I firmly believe Edward Deegan was pointed in your direction by Deacon, who can be seen spying on you at Bunker Hill.

Then Deacon also gives you what might be the best pistol in the game -- Deliverer. I'm using a custom pistol this playthrough (mauser off Nexus), but when I was playing pure vanilla, Deliverer was easily the best pistol, better than anything I could make.

I dunno. Deacon is pretty cool. I love the Railroad but he makes it that much harder to ever turn against them.

Also, I hate the Institute and the BOS, so I'll probably never play a character who sides with them.

Deacon has got to be the one telling Travis about everything you do. Every time Travis mentions "sources" I think of Deacon. And Deacon was posing as a guard in Diamond City.

Then we meet Edward Deegan at Bunker Hill, who says he's heard about you and knows you'd be good help. Who told him about you? Why Deacon, who spies at Bunker Hill before you meet him.

It's kinda adorable, though. Deacon is your fanboy, running around boasting about you before he even knows you.

I always roleplay that my character is doing all these sidequests so she can build a home in Diamond City for her son (basically my excuse for not doing the main story), so knowing that Deacon might have gotten me that job with the Cabots just to help me out . . .

He is allover Goodneighbor and makes goofy comments about how “even he” is welcome there.

“I always feel like somebody’s watchin’ me . . .”

I came out of the hotel and he was there, waiting at the door . . .

Went in the Memory Den and he beat me inside. Slick bastard probably changes clothes like Superman. I’m surprised he doesn’t appear in the Third Rail.

And here he is at Bunker Hill. He actually greets you here, too. I remember the first time I noticed him and the way he always stares and says hello. It was a “wtf????” moment.
