there’s a part of him that says he should be excited, but most of him says that this is all moving rather fast.  even faster than it did when hyun said that he’d be part of a debut project, even faster than when he said he’d have to pack up his things and leave their shared apartment on their birthdays.  perhaps this is something like a trauma for hongjoong, watching people leave to start a life all their own.  only this time, he’s the one that has to leave and he’s not sure what to do about it.

he’ll miss his cats.  he’ll miss his brother, and his fiancee.  he’ll miss his niece.  he’ll miss the way that his room was organized just the way he liked it, a little too full but still homely nonetheless.  where clothes from the night before were left on the floor by his bed, but everything else was put away neatly.  he’ll miss the way that his niece would scream for him every night when he came home from practice, demanding to be held by the one person she hadn’t seen all day long.

how is it, really, that he’s supposed to tell his family this? and what is he supposed to do with his six cats? “ this is all moving super fast.” he mumbles under his breath  -  not that hongjoong didn’t expect it to go slow.  but he thought perhaps he’d give his brother time to get used to the idea, but it seems like that was not to be the case.  his attention turns to minho, biting the inside of his cheek before he continues, “ is it going to be hard for you? i’m a little worried about my brother .. and my cats ...”

sweat is running down the side of his face and that’s it for baekhyun, he drops to the floor when the song fades out with his chest heaving and gasping to get some air back into his lungs. he closes his eyes for a moment, presses them shut and, maybe, he has been pushing himself a little too hard is what he thinks when he notices that his head is actually spinning the tiniest bit after that medley of hardcore dance routines. he probably shouldn’t have insisted on doing all of them in one go, after another.

but it’s what he asked minho for.

feels like -- with them not getting any real direction yet -- he should be prepared for what could come toward them soon. especially since he’s apparently considered a dancer as well; not a main or lead, not even close to that, but skills coming through enough for him to be considered one even if he doesn’t really understand why. so, getting minho’s help to refine his movements and help him out with his style, technique is always good. his safest bet. baekhyun rolls on his side not to reach for his bottle of water that he would need very much right now but to get his phone, checking the time. “i still have an hour left before my general education workshop starts,” he says, more out loud to himself rather to minho. doesn’t think, though, that he can go through another routine. if he can even get up in the first place.

one of the biggest things of having to get used to living in a dorm is getting used to not having nala around.

he's constantly calling up his grandmother and asking for her to send him pictures of her, and he finds himself looking through the lot of them he's gained so far. minho misses her a lot, incredibly--and makes a note that the moment he has some free time he can stop and see her and nala. swiping through the photos he's received today-- he smiles at the sight of them, softing cooing under his breath as he lays his head down on pillow tiredly.

it’s the final move in day that the company had allotted the group to move into the dorms. only a fee days for them to move in and then back to training it is and seonho suddenly felt like it was all happening so fast. during the announcement and room assignments, he had been all kinds of excited and thrilled and ready for the next step on this adventure and on the road to debut. but now, as he stands in his new room which he was going to be sharing with two other people he would be debuting with, it felt... weird. 

so weird that he found his feel moving along the floor ( padding on the new lion slippers his aunt got him in celebration ) towards where he knew was the leaders room where the oldest three would be. there he found baekhyun, his leader and most trusted hyung, and the teen wasted no time in attaching himself to the older male.

kang joon would never dare to call himself a book smart guy, as he just did decent in school (there had been other troubles on his mind back then). he felt like he was more of a cunning character, someone who was dumb, but sympathic. so when royal entertainment suggested to some members of de:code to improve their general education as idols weren't supposed to just look pretty and perform, kang joon felt like thrown back to old school habits where he would sit over his books for hours and pick up just a third of all given informations.

he wasn't the best in studying, nor was he that interested in it. it was draining and boring and there was so much more he could come up with to use his time for. the oldest royal boy felt pretty conflicted about it, but at the same time he believed that he shouldn't bring shame to de:code and become an embarrassement to his company which was why he somehow had to pull through, no matter what.

After getting a week to deal with the news, the boys to be Royal’s future boy group are called together into the same room to learn what exactly will happen next.

learning about the fact that they’d be moving into dorms didn’t surprise mingyu. he knew that they would want them to be living together, but he didn’t realize it would be this soon. he was dreading the moment they’d be informed that they had to leave their current homes and make a new one, especially given that he just moved into a new apartment with won in june. they didn’t even have time to totally settle and they were already being made to pack up again. it was stressful, but he was still extremely grateful that they ended up being separated by age.

fortunately, that meant that he wasn’t going to be living without won. he feared that they would be pulled away from one another, so he felt like a burden had been lifted from his shoulders when that wasn’t the case. it was a change, and a big one at that, but it could have been a lot worse. having seonho as their third roommate didn’t cause mingyu much discomfort. he preferred living alone with his boyfriend, sure, but it was nice having someone that viewed physical affection as such an important and lighthearted thing. mingyu wouldn’t have to deny won any attention, cuddles, or snuggles, because they’d be able to act regularly without the younger paying any mind.

hongjoong never thought he’d see the day that he had to leave home, leave his brother and his niece and move in with someone who isn’t family  -  but here he is.  and it’s a little sad, but he’s trying to put a brave face on it  (  no matter how much he misses waking up to the sound of a baby crying, or knowing that his twin is just on the other side of his wall.  )

he swallows the lump in his throat and he’s a little quiet on moving day, but he’s still all smiles and sunshine.  this is the life he’s wanted to live, after all.  he doesn’t have a right to complain, shouldn’t let the pain of being ripped from his family put a damper on the fact that he’s here.  he’s made it.  this is his dream.  dreams come with sacrifice.  he’s not the only one that had to leave everything behind.

the good thing about this arrangement (  or the bad one  ) is that he’s been roomed with kangjoon as one of the eldest members in the group.  good, because he enjoys his time with kangjoon.  bad, because kangjoon likes to tease him relentlessly, which is only bound to get worse now that they’re going to be spending so much time together in the house.  still, hongjoong wants to make the most of it  -  wants to spend their first night together without the fears that he knows harbor in both their hearts.

so the only real choice? flopping on kangjoon’s bed and refusing to move.  “ guess you’re not sleeping tonight, kangjoon ~~” he says in a sing song voice, spreading his limbs across the comfort of the mattress.  “ i took your bed ~”
