note: takes place in domino effect, during seventh year
.
Sirius in the library was an unusual sight on its own. MadamPince had a sixth sense when it came to the Gryffindorâs presence in her domainand knew from experience that more often than not the boy came to stir trouble, not the mind, and was swift to kick him out at the first sign of mischief.
Today, however, was one of those rare instances that hisnose was buried in a book. It didnât stop Madam Pince from lingering close tokeep a watchful eye on the seventh year, unsubtle in her spying through the cracksof the bookcase across the table where Sirius had settled at.
Kagome couldnât help herself as she strolled by and saw itherself. âAfternoon, Madam Pince!â she said, softly enough that she couldnâtget kicked out for it, but loud enough for whatever cover she was aiming forwas busted.
[[more under the cut]]
It was worth it for the librarianâs flinty glare alone, butKagome had to bite her lip to stifle her snickers when Madam Pince then gave a huffy harrumphand pivoted on her heel before proceeding to stalk away â presumably to herdesk.
Curiously enough, however, Sirius had yet to look up.
Now Kagome was intriguedâand frankly, a tiny bit worried.
Was he sick?
Was he failing and needed to study?
Or did he concoct some prank convoluted enough to requireactual research?
Actually, that last one got her a little excited to behonest.
Strolling past him casually, she felt her lips curl when hefailed to notice her and doubled back, tiptoeing up behind her boyfriend. Shepaused as she came to stand behind him, taking a moment to devise the best planof action.
The curl of her lips turned devious as she reached low anddipped her hands to his side, hovering just long enough for her to whisper lowinto his ear, âWhy so serious, Sirius?â before her fingers attacked his sides.
Kagome sprang back just in time to miss Sirius head clippingher chin, teeth clamping down on her bottom lip to hold back to laugh at the high-pitched squeal that he only just barelymanaged to cut short.
They both froze, waiting for the moment Madam Pince swoopedin to throw them both out but she never came. Then slowly, so very slowly,Sirius twisted in his seat to throw Kagome the most menacing glower.
She snorted, unable to stop herself, and when he opened hismouth she pushed a finger to his lips, cutting him off with a quiet, âShhh.â Whenhis eyes narrowed on the finger resting on his mouth, Kagome had to swallowdown the giggle tickling the back of her throat at the funny, cross-eyed lookhe made. âDonât want to get kicked out now, dâyou?â she teased.
She pulled back her hand, though not before tapping him onthe nose, and slipped into the seat next to his. Setting her elbow on thetable, she propped her chin on the heel of her hand and fluttered her eyes ather boyfriend, who was still givingher the stink-eye. âFancy finding you here, studying of all things,â shemurmured.
Sirius huffed. He turned away, back to his book. âEven Istudy sometimes, you know that.â
âYes,â Kagome conceded, still grinning. It only grew whenshe caught Sirius peeking at her from the corner of his eyes. âBut usually itâslast minute because, and I quote, âI know most of it anyway, so all I reallyneed is a refresher.â
Siriusâ lips twitched for a moment. âWell, itâs true. Yourbeau isnât just all good looks and charms, after all.â He tossed his head backa little, just enough to flip the curls of his fringe away from his eyes beforewinking. The beginnings of a smirk played at his mouth âArenât you a lucky one, with such a great catch?â
Kagome may have played along, giving an exaggerated swoon, but she was sincere when she agreed, humming and murmuring low.
âThe luckiest, I reckon.â
Sirius faltered, a faint red dusting his pale cheeks.Clearing his throat, he ducked his head so his curls fell forward, a curtain drawingover his face. âWell,â he mumbled, playing with the book in his head, andKagome didnât need to look to know he was grinning. âIf you must knowâŚâ
Kagome straightened a little when he trailed off and didnât continueright away. âN.E.W.T.s are coming up pretty soon,â she remarked, carefullyneutral. âPractically knocking on our door, they are.â
Sirius breathed out a low, slow chuckle. âRight you are,â hemurmured, tucking his hair behind his ear so he could look at her. There as awry look to his eyes. âNeed at least five N.E.W.T.s. to be considered for Aurortraining.â
Oh.
âThatâs right,â Kagome said softly. For the longest time,Sirius stance on the N.E.W.T.s was that heâll give it an earnest try and fromthere, see what heâd like best out of the jobs open to him.
She wondered when it changed.
âWell,â she said, turning to the book, considering. âI doubtyouâd need to worry so much about DADA, Charms, or Runes. So thatâs three.â Shegave a hum. âHerbology, you might need a bit of a reviewing just in case. Samegoes with Transfiguration. Thatâs five. Are you taking any others?â
âI was thinking Potions,â Sirius admitted quietly, watchingher keenly.
âA bit more tricky, that one,â she murmured, but there was acheeky smile on her face. âA good thing you have a bona fide potions mistressin your presence to help you on the finer points of brewing.â
âA good thing indeed,â Sirius repeated gently. He was stillwatching her, though now it was like his eyes were glowing as he did. âSo⌠youthink Iâll be good?â
Lifting her chin off her hand, Kagome let the latter droponto the table, sliding it across. She turned it over palm first: an offering.
One that Sirius didnât hesitate to take, slipping hisfingers between her own, curling around her hand.
âI think youâll be great,âKagome said, strong and clear with no hesitation. There was no denying the absoluteconfidence behind her voice, all for him, inhim.
Touched, Sirius could only give a soft little exhale, analmost inaudible, âYeah?â that spoke of how with just those five words and thefaith behind them, his heart went soaring. A smile broke out on his face whenKagome nodded encouragingly, as bright as the gleam in his grey eyes. âThank you, Kagome...â

Are we going to have Padfoot piss on Voldemort's corpse in DE? Please say yes
akskdhfgskshd, g o d do not tempt me like this nonny
It took a while for it to really set in, the fact that Voldemort was finally, finally, dead.
She had spent her whole life working to reach this moment, and often doubted sheâd actually fulfill Harryâs desperate wish.Â
But Voldemort was dead. Dead as a doornail, dead. Still.
Under the cover of an invisibility spell, Kagome slipped out of the Great Hall.
Just one more time, she told herself, she needed to see one last time and then finally, she could put this, him, all behind her and move on to live her life with her family, friends, and the love of her life in peace.
Just one moreâŚÂ
Kagome faltered upon the sound of urgent whispers, for one moment afraid that the battle wasnât over, that someone had gotten past the guard to reach Voldemortâs body⌠She hastened her steps, rounding the corner into the southern courtyard, slipping behind a column with her wand already summoned in hand.
What she saw nearly made her drop it.
âSweet Merlin, Padfoot, have you been holding it in just for this? I swear you mustâve pissed out bloody gallon by now.â
Kagome couldnât help the strangled sound that escaped her, the noise causing both her brother and Siriusâ heads to whip around and freeze at the sight of her. For a long moment no one moved, Kagome clutching at the column, James standing a cautious few feet away from Voldemortâs body â just as she left it save for a few⌠noteable additions â and last but not least, a large black dog standing above said body, itâs left hind leg still lifted up in the air.
Then, slowly, after one last jiggle and a quick second burst of stream of suspicious yellow liquid falling onto the Dark Lordâs body â may he never, never rest in peace â the dog lowered his leg.
All the air in Kagomeâs lungs swept out of her in one gusty breath.
âGuys, what the fuck.â
James took two wide steps back from both the corpse and Kagome, levelling an accusing finger at the dog now panting happily. âIt was his idea.â
Padding away from the corpse towards her, Sirius released his transformation, grinning broadly as if she hadnât just witnessed him lifting his leg to piss on Voldemortâs dead body. âHey, hey, you want a go?â
Kagome stared at him as if heâd gone insane, ignoring her brotherâs hastily smothered snigger. âNo, of course I donât want to take a piss on Voldemortâs bloody corpse.â
Sirius wasnât perturbed. âWas that a bit of hesitation I hear? Donât worry, love, we can turn around if itâs being watched youâre worried about.â
She sputtered, stopped herself, and then decided it was best to ignore him as well. Taking a deep breath, she had to tell herself it⌠probably wasnât the best thing to laugh right then. If she laughed, then Sirius wouldnât believe that what he was doing was totally wrong. Which it was!
Maybe, just maybe it was kind of funny, but! Merlin, the trouble they would be in if someone walked in on them right now. âWhereâs Frank?â she asked instead once sheâd gotten herself under control.
Siriusâ grin widened, a sparkle of mischief in his eyes. âOffered him to take over so he could have a break.â
Kagome looked between him and James, who was now grinning himself. She didnât believe him for even a second. âHeâs not that gullible.â Frank grew up with them, for Merlinâs sake.
âHeâd be a poor auror if he were,â James agreed, chuckling. âWhich is why weâre gonna have to pick up an extra bottle of good old Ogdenâs on our next liquor run.â
Kagome threw her hands up in the air. âFine, fine!â She gave up. They covered their tracks, at least. She couldnât really ask, never mind expect, for more than that. And as far as the list of insane things theyâve done so far went, this⌠really didnât even rank up in the top five. âBut I swear Sirius, if I get asked why Voldemort reeks of dog pissâŚâ
Sirius only cackled. âJust tell them the Grim came by to collect his due.â
AAAAAAAAA GOD I LOVE YOUR WRITING SO MUCH!! for the prompts: Kagome&Remus - "I've always had a soft spot for dogs"
sixth year, de verse
-
The Common Room was quiet, as it always was at this time ofnight with the clock having ticked past midnight long ago, nothing but thefaint crackling of the fireplace burning, the rustle of turning pages, and the murmuringof whispers to fill the void.
Across the fireplace lounged two figures â one tucked in thecorner, the other laying between the formerâs legs, head resting back against theirstomach, cushioned by the thick layer of an over-sized soft cable-knit jumper.
A contented sigh from below broke one Kagome Potterâsconcentration as she was reading. Slipping a thumb to mark her place in herbook, she shut it and moved it aside to look down to find Remusâ face staringback at her, so to speak. His eyes had fallen shut, head tipped back under theattention of her free hand running fingers through his hair, and his own bookresting by his side, abandoned. He was practically boneless now as he dozedagainst her.
It was a far cry from the hours earlier, when his body was heldas tense as a string pulled tight and about to snap from the constant rollingwaves of pain that washed over him, before she finally opened her arms andbeckoned him over for a cuddle while they did some light reading.
He would have to go to Madam Pomfrey in the morning, nodoubt; the approaching full moon was taking a heavier toll on him than usualfor some reason, and she could only help so much. And it wasnât as if theprofessors would allow Remus to snuggle with her during lesson, in any case.
âRemus?â she gently called, âFeeling better now?â
Remus turned his head, burying his nose into her jumper. Hetook in a deep breath and seemed to melt against her. âHelping.â He gave asleepy murmur. âYou always do. Thank you, for this.â
âAnytime,â Kagome smiled softly, a touch of wryness to thecurl of her lips as she continued to card her fingers through Remusâ sandyhair. âYou know I donât mind. Iâve always had a soft spot for dogs, after all.â
Below her, Remus snorted. His eyes cracked open, warm amberstaring up at her in amusement, a brow rising just a tick. âTruly?â A small, quiet chuckle fell from his lips. âThat would certainly explain Padfoot.â
Kagome scoffed, ruffling Remusâs hair as she looked away tohide the flush dusting her cheeks at the mention of her best friend nowboyfriend. âVery funny,â she muttered under her breath.
âSet yourself up for that one, you did,â Remus teased, but was kind enough to leave it there. Were it her brother, she had no doubt thereâd bejokes about how Sirius had been barking up her tree and wagging his tail forher and what not. Instead, Remus only let out a small, considering hum. âItâs a wonder youranimagus form isnât one, now that I think about it.â
A sudden laugh escaped Kagome, her fingersâ ministrationscoming to a halt. âYouâre not the only one to think the same.â
trying to fill a prompt and got distracted reading remusâ wiki page so hereâs a future battle scene that may or may not happen in domino effect ;3
âAvada Keââ
âCrucio.â
Remus cracked his eyes open just in time to see the green bead of light at the tip Dolohovâs wand die out as it flew up into the air, its owner falling to his knees, back arching sharply as he dropped to the ground writhing from the agony of the Unforgiveable cast upon him.
The sound of crunching footsteps in the snow drew Remusâ gaze up to his savior as they approached their target; the air in his lungs left his body in one fell swoop as he locked eyes with a brilliant blazing blue.
The screams of Dolohov continued to rise between them.
[[more under the cut]]
The Unforgiveable Curses were spells meant to be cast with unwavering conviction â you had to mean them or theyâd be weak, or worse, unsuccessful.
Kagome had once thought the emotion one utilized to cast such spells would have to be dark, malicious, cruel. How else could you cast a spell to control one so absolutely, to torture one without remorse, to kill one without a breath of hesitation?
And yet, Kagome felt nothing as she cast the Cruciatus curse onto Remusâ once and would-be-again murderer. Â
Rather, she felt empty. There was nothing in her heart or soul but cold, steadfast resolve as she raised her wand, the after-image of Remus lying prone on cot with his empty gaze staring up at Great Hall ceiling and the whispers of Antonin Dolohov in her mind fading but oh so fresh to present the scene in front of her, of the very same man whose name had filled her ears, with the Killing Curse readied at her best friend.
Her spell was faster, the incantation that left her tongue quiet, contained, but resolute, and Dolohov crumpled under her will.
Kagome held her wand steady as she stalked up to the Death Eater and deftly snatched his wand from the air, snapping it in one motion.
It wasnât until she finally caught Remusâ gaze that she realized she was mistaken.
It wasnât until she saw Remus, breathing shallowly, face pale, wet with sweat, and slack with shock but still alive, that she knew it was not nothingness that was fed into the spell, powering the curse, but the cold fury she now recognized to be simmering in her belly and coursing through her veins.
It wasnât until she saw Remus looking back at her in horror that she finally cut off the spell.
Her hands fell to her side, now trembling, as Dolohovâs screams echoed in her ears.
