ddvauau - reveal

"I'm going to tell my boyfriend."
"Tell him what? You're gay?"
CuteGuy pushed HotGuy off the roof they were lounging on.
"Hey!" HG laughed, pulling himself up from where he landed on the fire escape. "No seriously, what are you telling him?"
"I'm gonna reveal I'm CuteGuy."
The air tensed and CG wouldn't meet his eyes.
They... well they didn't exactly promise they'd show each other first but...
"...Oh." HG tried to calm his heart. He wasn't sure what he was feeling. Not betrayal. Maybe... disappointment? "It's that serious, huh?"
"Don't you want to tell your boyfriend?" CG almost felt desperate to get rid of his best friend's upset face.
"Everyday."
"See? Exactly."
HG imagined it. Telling Grian right now who he was. He wondered if Grian would feel betrayed at how long he'd kept this a secret. He thought about why he'd been keeping it secret for so long.
To keep Grian safe, he'd always tell himself. But they'd been dating for months now, even moved in to a place together recently, and Scar knew he wanted to spend his life with him... He couldn't keep it secret forever.
He'd kept his identity hidden from CuteGuy, too. It made sense when they were enemies, on opposite sides, but now they were friends. They were partners in stopping crime! Scar didn't trust anyone more with his life.
"Why don't-" he coughed, suddenly nervous. "I still want you to know me. So, what are we waiting for?"
"What?" Finally CG looked into his eyes.
"You can still tell him, but can you tell me, too?" Don't they owe it to each other? They've had a roller coaster of a time just the two of them longer than either of them have even dated these mysterious partners. Where are the sense of dibs?
CG took a long time to answer. Eventually he stood up and held out his hand to help HG join him.
Like always, they were separated through the fabric of their gloves. Through the shadows of their masks. Through the anonymity of their aliases.
"Okay." CG didn't let go of HG's hands, but held them between the two of them. "Let's do it."
CuteGuy took a deep breath and pulled the wings behind his ears away from where they sat half covering his eyes. He let go of one of HG's hands to wipe the magic shadow from his brow and he finally looked up.
Something in HG told him he recognized this person. Something was slowly clicking into place and it just felt insanely right as CG told him, "It's me; Grian."
He was left stunned, desperately trying to process this information as two people in his head somehow merged into one.
Grian was left unsure of HG's reaction for a little bit. Grian and the hero had interacted before in the past but after all this time was he important enough to remember? Or was Grian just another civilian to the new-vigilante?
It had been over half a year since HotGuy took Grian as his plus one to the charity ball, unable to bring CuteGuy, but Grian still feared it was only a tease when he'd called him "my favorite citizen".
All of a sudden HG's face split into a giant grin and tears came to his eyes. He rushed in, grabbing Grian by the waist and spun him around.
"Grian! It's you! Oh my God, it's you!" His happiness was infectious and it left Grian relieved and confused.
HG pulled Grian into a tight hug, one closer than they've ever shared before as heroes. It made Grian's heart beat faster. "Please can I show you who I am?" HG asked into his hair.
Grian nodded against him, the nerves not going away. This was it. HG now knew him and accepted him but will it be that easy the other way around?
No going back now.
HG squeezed him one more time then pulled back. Grian hated himself briefly for missing the warmth. He had a boyfriend. He had...
Scar.
It was Scar.
HotGuy had pulled off his tinted glasses, unveiling his own mechanical magic.
His green eyes never looked so beautiful.
"Hi, G." He looked so fond.
"Oh, Scar!" Grian fell into his arms again but immediately pulled him down into a passionate kiss.
