     there’s a takeaway container tucked at a delicate angle beneath her arm that is liable to topple to the ground at any moment, her phone case is sticky from the amount of times it’s been dropped on the liquor-flooded floor, and frankly her balance is precarious at best, knees weak from too many drinks and shoes that were begging to be taken off hours ago, but she has made it to his front door in one piece –– uninvited, technically –– and that in itself is a small victory that daisy thinks should not be overlooked.  “ are you busy? ”  it’s four in the morning so it’s not a question that begs to be asked but it seems polite, she thinks.

        “ i’ve been told that i’m not allowed to give you any more free cake unless you’re gonna grab an apron and start serving coffees to the other customers. ”
