Hi, would you be comfortable writing headcannons for Sinestro with a Green Lantern s/o? No worries if not!
Trigger Warning: Abusive relationship, controlling behavior, emotional/mental manipulation. Read at your own risk.
Closer than friends, really. He'd never thought of the word for it - there never seemed to be a word fit for what they shared and felt - but a weak part of his mind knew to call it 'love.'
It sickened him now but back then, it was his - their - secret, their kept shadow shared between the two illuminated by two faint green glows. A younger Sinestro had confused it for a source of power, of energy, that eclipsed that of the Green Lantern mantra and the lies of the council and made him infinitely more powerful than any of the other lanterns.
What a lie that had been.
In a sense, the council was only half-wrong. Love was not the source of power. Sinestro let out a snort, delicately tipping the broken shards of green in his hand into the starlight. How could love ever hope to be powerful?
Utterly debauched in chaos. It was no small wonder the council frowned upon love within the ranks.
The green shards clinked back into their case, the thick metal clicking shut around it. He placed it back on his desk and circled down into the halls.
Yes, love was not the answer. They, sweet and determined and passionate s/o, had almost convinced him of it after how they made him feel strong from their bond.
So why had he felt stronger fighting for them? Why had he felt power, invincibility course through his veins whenever their cause forced the pair to fight side-by-side?
The answer came in their blood. Oh, he had saved them, saved them from the twisting, gnawing grasp of death - yet he had done so with a new power.
Not love. Never that messy, blinding love the Sapphires so pathetically tied themselves to.
Fear consumed everyone. All feared something.
Perhaps loss of wealth if they were the weak-willed sort.
Everyone followed fear; it's what made it the ultimate answer to the council's inane blindness, for what better method of control was there than fear? Will came and went, but fear was forever, fear never shriveled.
Fear of loss... oh, what a powerful tool it was.
How it had fueled him with power. The near-dying of S/o's light had only made his stronger, fierce enough to pierce armor and strong enough to strangle out the vermin.
Sinestro stopped before the viewing port. There they were.
The gilded room reached high, a world of stars atop the roof so they may be viewed at any time - too far to reach from the ground, close enough to feel like they could be reached. Every finery worthy of Sinestro's tastes surrounded them to be used as they please.
At the center of it all they sat. The centerpiece to the gallery of his creation, of his design. The center of his campaign sat free in their cage, hands free of that pesky ring of lies so that they could never escape their love.
Now, they were his source of fear. Fear was his power. And he would never, ever let go of power.
