Multimedia Project – Women Wrestling in India [Shoot 1 Progress]
Does the rise of women wrestlers in India point towards a society where women are being portrayed equally competitive?
With this story in mind, we decided to divide the work between our team. Naureen and Sharib handled the telephonic interviews while Aaqib and Jayashree went to Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) in East Patel Nagar. Sanat participated in Hacks/Hackers #dbootcamp workshop.
The audio interviews managed to be taken for the coach of the Indian women wrestling team, Kripashankar Bishnoi. The interview involved his personal life and how he got affiliated with the team, how significant has been the role of coaches, how the perceptions about women in wrestling has changed and how the state of Haryana has a lot to do with it.
Another audio interview was taken of Geeta Phogat’s father and how the family faced criticism from society. In the interview, Mahavir Singh talked about the changing mindset of the society, his motivational attitude towards his daughter, their achievements and their future prospects.Â
Sanat took part in a 3 day workshop over the weekend to better understand how tools could be used to tell data driven stories and visualize data, making stories more interactive and engaging. Through interaction with various professionals and training sessions, it enlarged the possibilities of the project.
This field visit helped the team learn more about what goes behind the scene as well as helped gain a better understanding of the subject.
