there are videos of david byrne and his crew getting ready for the american utopia tour, that he posted in his journal on his personal website.

there, he was testing lighting tech such as the in-line lighting, and a light that gets smaller the further away you are.

david also shared that the chains around the stage was the first thing they came up with using and it worked perfectly with the lighting from the get go

there is also an offset lighting as seen in the video, but it was never used. interesting to see if it could have potential in a silly comedy interlude.

unfortunately the journal in the david byrne website is not available anymore, but it can be accessed with the wayback machine. however, the videos posted in that blog post don't seem to work or play anymore.
