#db angst

a/n: this was a request sent to me!! and i just absolutely ADORED it so i dropped everything i was doing to make itt!! This may be my last fic for a while though, as school has started again.. BUT PLS KEEP REQUESTING!! I'll do em eventually!!

Summary: Years ago, two completely different Saiyans meet, and as if by fate, fall for each other. Gine falls first, but Bardock falls even harder.

A long time ago, when Gine was just a young child, she had met this young boy in her training class. His name was Bardock, and she was absolutely drawn in by him. Gine was taught from a young age, to marry a wealthy and strong Saiyan man. The moment their eyes met, she was astounded. He was already so strong, especially for such a young Saiyan. When she told her mother about him, her mother froze up and her gaze hardened.

''You will NOT be friends with that boy.'' She said firmly, almost a stern yell. Gine frowned, almost whining to her mother.

''But Mama…why? I really want to be friends with him!''

Her father approached, even angrier than her mother. ''His family is a disgrace to the Saiyan name. He is the only strong one in his family, if you have children with him, they'll be weak little creatures. I forbid you from even speaking to him, do you hear? I swear to Kami, if you ever do, there'll be consequences.''

She was left fearful, so she kept her distance. Despite wanting to talk to him, she stood away from him, trying to keep her eyes off of him as they trained. It was a struggle, but she soon got over it. The pain fizzling out.

Bardock was left stunned. This girl..she must have been around his age. She was pretty - well, as pretty as a 9 year old girl could be in his young eyes. His mother and father were sceptical, she was too skinny. She looked like she'd crumble with one hit. His family wanted him to be with a strong, brawny woman.

So the moment he approached them about her, they were firm in their decision. His mother looked down at him, speaking in that firm, stern tone.

''She is an awful influence on you. She disgusts us, you will NEVER be with her, understand?''

Bardock was disheartened, almost downtrodden. He wanted to at least be friends with her! But of course, that wasn't allowed. He gave up, ignoring her during their classes together, he didn't want to even look at her, in fear that he'd fall too hard for her.

When they had both reached adulthood, they were completely different. Bardock was rough, almost evil, ravaging every planet he had went to, there was always a little blood on him no matter what he had done. He was the typical Saiyan male. Strong, tough, and a little wicked.

But Gine? She was the other side of the spectrum. She was gentle and merciful. When she had gone to another planet to take things, she would take what she needed, and then sit with the animals on that planet before going home. She was dainty and tender. Unlike most Saiyans. Her family shunned her for this -- they wanted a strong daughter, not this soft mush of a daughter that Gine was.

So, whenever Bardock and Gine were put into a mission together, it didn't go that well. Bardock was pillaging the city, ransacking every home he went into. But Gine stayed behind, taking food politely from the locals in the small village. She helped some of the younger children in the homes relax, and picked up things for them.

When she returned to the ship, Bardock was already there, staring at her incredulously. ''What was that all about?'' He enquired snarkily, eyes rolling over her delicate form. ''You didn't do much. You took food, not valuable things. Why?''

Gine looked into his eyes, trying to assess him. ''Well-..um, I don't really do pillaging like you do. I think treating everybody nicely is the best way to earn things.'' She remarked, seeing his tough façade cracking. She felt strange. Her stomach kept flipping as she looked at him. He was handsome. Rugged, but handsome. The scar on his right cheek made him look even more tough and hot.

She felt herself falling, and falling HARD.

Bardock examined her, and the soft aura about her. She was what he was looking for - someone to let go around. To shove off this personality he was forcing. He knew at that moment, he would be with her. He loved her softness, the merciful and forgiving tendencies she had. She was gorgeous, not only physically.

Bardock stammered over his words, struggling to form a coherent thought. ''Uh..uh well, I-..erm, let's just go back to Planet Vegeta. This place is..too..awkward.''

Gine giggled, amused by his nervousness and the deep blush on his face. ''Alright, let's go, big boy.'' She added with a laugh. Noticing that his blush got even deeper at the nickname. ''I can grab you a drink while we're there.''

The moment Bardock stepped into her home, his heart began to race. The place was unlike many other homes on Planet Vegeta. Hers was warm, comfortable and inviting. He didn't know about any rules she had, so he follows his own. He leaves his boots and his bag at the door, and sits down on one of her chairs.

''Um..nice place, Gine.'' He comments, gazing around the dimly lit room. His thoughts were interrupted by Gine approaching, handing him a large pint glass, filled with beer. Their hands gently brush as she hands him the drink. And like a shock of electricity, their gazes lock. There was this semblance of love, somewhat.

''Thank you..'' She smiles, pink dusting her cheeks slightly as she tries to hide her face. Stepping away to sit beside him and finish off her own drink. ''You can stay the night, if you want to.'' She suddenly adds, her voice inviting. ''I could sleep on the couch, and you can take the bed.''

Bardock looked at her as if she'd just said the stupidest thing in the universe. ''No, Gine, you take the bed. I'll sleep on the couch.'' His voice unyielding. ''ᵒʳ ᵐᵃʸᵇᵉ ʷᵉ ᶜᵃⁿ ˢʰᵃʳᵉ ᵃ ᵇᵉᵈ…'' He adds in a quiet whisper, hoping she didn't hear that.

Gine paused, she definitely heard that. ''Uh- Bardock, sure, I guess…'' She blushed and hid her face again, bashfully. She leans into him, resting her head on his shoulder.

Years later, they were married. It was kind of a struggle, reigning Bardock in all the time, but she managed. He was tough and strong outside, but with her, he was gentle and loving. He was whipped for her, and it was obvious. In multiple ways. (which, Bardock does NOT like to mention.)

Typically, if I’m in a really bad way, I can’t write at all. Depression and stress both sap all my creativity away. The closest I’ve probably come to writing my feelings was when I got so pissed and frustrated at Glee in early season 3 that  I wrote Devolution in a fit of rage. :P

Or when in a similar state of being pissed at the show, I turned my unfinished season 2 Quinn-gets-stuck-in-Lima-married-to-Finn into the season 3 Rachel-gets-stuck-in-Lima-married-to-Finn fic, Acceptance. 

As for DB, I’ve imagined dozens of angsty scenarios--some of which have been discussed on the blog like Amnesia!Rachel and WhyNotMe?Quinn--but I’ve never seriously considered writing any of them out in the DB verse. It’s my happy Faberry place. Sometimes it’s because I’m feeling moody and down, sometimes it’s just because my brain skips down the road of what-if. 

Exactly. 

The angst is delicious. 

I’ve always imagined that Rachel would end up being completely thrown by that. She’d try to laugh it off when Quinn initially tells her, but then she’d start obsessing about the revelation and get really upset that Quinn had never told her and given her the chance to reciprocate. And then she’d question why she should be so upset about losing out on the chance to reciprocate because she’d never thought of Quinn in that way… Or did she? 

She’d probably want to move out of the bedroom she’d shared with Quinn because sleeping in there alone (or trying to because she’ll never have a truly good night’s sleep again) would be too painful, but I feel like she wouldn’t want to uproot her daughters even more by moving out of the house. I’m sure her dads (if they’re both still living) would be there to help her out. 

Judy’s passing will hit all the Fabrays pretty hard. Judy puts in a lot of work to undo the hurt she inflicted on her daughter(s) in the bad, wine-drunk time, and her relationship with Quinn (and Frannie) is on really good terms in her golden years, and, of course, her grand-kids adore her. She even has a fairly solid relationship with Rachel by the time Celeste is born, so losing her means losing a mother for both Quinn and Rachel and a grandma for their girls. That really sucks.

I can definitely see them still getting together eventually, assuming Quinn still takes the job in New York. All other things being equal, I think they'd likely reconnect a few months after Quinn moves to the city because I can't imagine that Quinn wouldn't go see Wicked at least once while Rachel is in the ensemble and then reach out after that just to say hello. Their friendship would start there.

Of course, in this scenario, Rachel's relationship with Peter doesn't have the Quinn comparison hanging over it (even though he still does remind her a little of Quinn) so when he comes back from London, I think they would get back together, at least for a little while. Quinn will still hate him for reasons, because becoming Rachel's friend will reawaken that stupid crush she used to have on her, and Rachel won't get why. In fact, I think it's Peter who figures it out and clues Rachel into the possibility that Quinn has feelings for her, and then of course, Rachel can't stop thinking about it and doubting it and maybe kind of wishing it could be true but then wondering why she would because she's only dated men and she'd never want to ruin her friendship with Quinn. This all puts a strain on her friendship with Quinn and also her relationship with Peter, so when the opportunity to tour with Les Mis presents itself, Rachel goes for it sooner than she did in the 'canon' universe. She and Peter break up again because Rachel needs some space but she keeps in touch with Quinn, and then while she's on tour, she gets drunk one night between cities and hooks up with her female costar, Lilly, (who plays Cosette and happens to look very much like Quinn) and realizes that yep, those confusing feelings she's been having for Quinn are very much not confusing anymore.

Cue big lesbian feelings confession.

And this is why I think losing the first pregnancy would bring the biggest chance for the relationship falling apart. Because Quinn’s instinct is to lash out, and she might say that or something like that without even really thinking about what it will do to Rachel. They’d both have a lot of healing to do and probably some therapy before they’d be able to get over all the pain and grief and blame.
