Throwback ... Toledo-Style • I found an old print of THE CITY LIVERY STABLE. It was built abt 1880 and sat at 435-37 St. Clair St. in Toledo, OH. It was demolished long ago. Not many people owned horses at the time, unless you were wealthy or needed horses for work... i.e. plowing or pulling wagons. But, the City Livery Stable provided carriages and drivers for weddings, parties, and funerals. • An author, William Allen White wrote that in his courting days, a horse and buggy could be rented for $1.50 to take for a relaxing Sunday afternoon ride. • I am going to flip to some toledo history over the next few weeks... with a strong focus on days long ago.
