#day 3.4

Toni enters the house starving.  She looks in the refrigerator and is glad to see that her mother left so much food behind.  She pulls out leftover gumbo and warms it up. 

Toni gives Anton a big hug.

Anton:  I’m proud of you!  You didn’t turn out like me.

Zeton:  You’re not so bad, dad.

Anton:  If things begin to get serious with Mr. All American...bring him by so I can meet him.

Zeton:  He’s just a bench player!

Anton:  Those are the worst kind...always have something to prove!

Zeton:  Okay dad...see you later?

Anton:  Yep, good night!

Toni makes her shot and wins the game, before turning to face her dad.

Zeton:  I start my new job tomorrow!  I’ll be working at FutureSim Labs.

Anton:  Now that’s something I can get behind!  Nice work making that expensive private school education pay off!

Zeton: *grins* By the way...can I get a DNA sample off you?

Anton:  Why?  Isn’t it obvious that I'm your father...wait - did your mom say something different?

Zeton:   *laughs* No dad!  I just want to practice analyzing DNA at work tomorrow. Now, open wide!

Anton:  *relieved* Oh...okay...*opens mouth wide* jez heckin!

Toni swabs the inside of Anton’s cheek.

Zeton:  Besides a criminal...no offense...you can’t judge people on what they do for a living.

Anton:  Sure you can...go out there and find you a nice teacher, those dudes couldn’t lie or cheat to save their own lives.

Zeton:  Dad!

Anton:  I’m serious! Now...step back and watch a master at work. *lines up his shot and throws the dart*

Zeton:  That looks like a miss, dad.

Anton:  That’s because you distracted me by telling me you’re dating an athlete.  

Zeton:  We’re not dating like that! 

Anton:  *scoffs* That’s right...no kissing or hugging.   Wasn’t that Wyatt dude an athlete too?

Zeton: Yes daddy...Wyatt played sports, but that’s just a coincidence. *steps up to take her turn*

Toni makes her shot and steps to the side so Anton can take his turn.

Anton:  Any more news?

Zeton:  Let’s see...oh, I went on a date today - well, it was an “almost date” anyway.

Anton:  Almost date?  What the hell is that?

Zeton:  It was a get to know me type of thing...you know, with no expectation of kissing or hugging.

Anton:  What th- that’s a thing now?

Zeton:  I don’t know, I had fun, though.

Anton:  *shakes his head* OK...so what does this guy do?

Zeton:  He’s an athlete.

Anton:  Bad sign! Athletes are up there with musicians and criminals...can’t be trusted.

Zeton:  Really dad?  My grandfather was an athlete and mom says he was a great guy! And you were a criminal!

Toni grabs a dart and attempts to line up her shot.

Anton:  So what’s your news?

Zeton:  First of all...momma is moving in with her new boyfriend Preston.

Anton:  You mean Bozo the Clown?

Zeton:  You don’t even know him.  Anyway...she’s leaving the house to me, but I’m putting it on the market as soon as I can and moving to Oasis Springs. 

Toni throws the dart, which bounces off the board and lands behind her.

Anton:  I might as well be playing with Chaya.  You’re gonna stab your whole damn foot off.

Zeton:  Did you hear what I said, daddy?

Anton:  Yeah...you're selling the house and abandoning me.

Anton:  So, what’s up?  What brings you by?

Zeton:  I have some news.

Anton:  Good or bad?

Zeton:  Depends on how you feel about it.

Anton:  In that case, tell me during a game of darts.

Zeton:  Darts...really daddy?

Anton:  Yeah...I need a challenge.  I’m tired of beating Chaya.
