If you are a cinephile or you can understand the role of creativity in times of total chaos this film is for you. Movies and art are never going to save your life, in fact they will probably end it quicker in a situation like Cambodia circa 1975-79. Alas, there is something about waiting on terror to show its face, waiting for the moment when you have to drop everything except what is on your back and run away fast and hard, that makes the cinema and the live music bar and the artist's bunker never more crucial to one's life right then and there. There is something about the nature of art in embattled zones that makes us know every moment that passes between us by name. It centers us and focuses our loving energy when everything else is thrown between boredom and violence. It makes brothers and sisters out of recent strangers. It teaches us what the hell we need to know about why it is otherwise critical to keep ourselves and those near us alive and well. This film is a critical window into all of that set in a time when complete, impenetrable darkness fell over Cambodia in the late 1970s. If you are a cinephile this film it unmissable.
