4, 7, 8 for both Auri and Kal if you’re up for another ask?
Im ALWAYS up for another ask especially when these two are involved 🙂↕️
If I could put them in another piece of media, I would put Auri in the spiderverse and Kal in Avatar (blue people). I think Auri is verrryy spiderman, she would fit right in, but her powers and monochromatic colors would make her a really interesting Spidey in terms of fight styles, and her suit too. she just really fits being a spider person imo. Kal and Avatar isnt shocking coming from me, I've made Syldrathi = Na'vi parallels many times, but i also think Kal has all of the fierce fighting, graceful beauty and spirituality to just feel very Na'vi to me. I could see him being like a more gentle version of Tsu'tey, actually. Also, he would look amazing :p
Something that I love that the fandom does for Auri is that i think we've done a great job at retaining the kind of curiosity and cute quirks that she has while not making her dumb. It's really easy for a lot of characters who are confused about their surroundings, or characters who like simple pleasures such as shoes, to get dumbed down by their fandom because these traits are labelled as "childlike". But I think we've done a great job at remembering that she's still incredibly smart and sharp, but she's also a seventeen year old girl who loves shoes, and two can he true at once.
With Kal this is a lot harder because i feel like I make a lot of the posts about him (because i'll never be normal about him), but i think the fandom does a good job of not turning him into a wattpad CEO alpha and for that i am forever grateful 🥲 im always terrified of the day that someone from tiktok will say he's a dominant daddy type, and i can only watch in horror, but it hasn't happened yet and i am SO glad (pleasedontjinxitplease)
Now with what the fandom does that I don't love for them (keepinmindthisisapersonalopinion. youdonthavetoagreeimnotattackingyou), for Auri i think a lot of blame is shifted onto her for the way she handled being a trigger. I've seen more than one post saying that they hate the way her personality shifted, and while i understand feeling your investment in a character change, i think her power can be a great (accidental) metaphor for addiction and the way it changes someone. i also think the way her becoming cold and stoic being presented as a bad thing is really smart and sad, especially because she's naturally a bright person. People are allowed to not like it of course, but i think not everyone realizes that that phase of her arc is meant to be a bad thing.
And for Kal it's by far the way a lot of fanon work sometimes makes him a lot dumber than he is in canon somehow. It's not everywhere, but I've seen a good amount of content where his cluelessness about Terrans is turned into unintelligence. Is he the smartest member on the squad?? No. Does he have moments of blind confusion?? Sure. But part of his job is being a battle tactician, which is a job that requires you to be smart in order to succeed, not just punch until they fall. No one in the squad is dumb at all and i just see it as a weird interpretation of his stubbornness, especially because a lot of his stubbornness is rooted in his belief in the Eshvaaren and his people's religion.
