Davina is fierce. Davina is kind of terrifying.  But Davina is also something like a little girl – or she should be. 

I love that she was kind of shy and blushy with Josh on the one hand and then at the same time so open to the friendship.  Any day of the week she trusts nobody. She lives in a world of monsters and mystery. Nobody and nothing can be taken at face value.  Her own mother tried to slit her throat.

But the girl is so very hungry for company – so hungry for a connection to someone that is only about who she is and not what she is.  She wants a friend, basically. She wants a regular person that she can pinky-swear with and talk about boys and what records they like.  Josh is perfect for that. It’s not as though they have huge amounts in common, as illustrated by their entirely disparate taste in music.  But they don’t need to. All they need to have in common is the desire to form a bond – to be a sane place to fall for each other in the crazy they find themselves living through.
